Have you ever wondered about the secret behind those simple blue carpets that always appear in Imam Khomeini's Hosseiniyeh? They are not just carpets, but an ancient Iranian craft called "Zeylou" from the city of Meybod. This craft is one of the oldest arts using cotton and natural indigo dye, and it was threatened with oblivion until an inspiring cultural initiative. Starting from oneself: The roots of this story go back to the memoirs of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei; where he recounts how he made a personal decision to sell the luxurious carpets in his home and replace them with simple "Zeylou" carpets, donating the remaining carpets to needy students. This carpet accompanied him for years, reflecting the values of simplicity and humility in his daily life. The decision that revived the craft: When later asked about the reason for the decline in interest in this craft, he answered: "I cannot force others to buy it, but I must start with myself." Based on this, he chose the works of the artisans of "Meybod" to carpet his home and Imam Khomeini's Hosseiniyeh, and because the required dimensions for the Hosseiniyeh were exceptional (3 by 9 meters), it required building 5 brand new weaving looms in Meybod to execute them! This step was not just about carpeting the place, but was a spark to revive a whole heritage; people began requesting the design under the name "Leader's Carpet," and the artisans named it "Naghsh Rahbari" (Leader's Pattern), so that "Zeylou" has today become a symbol of authenticity and humility in homes and mosques
