The esoteric spirit of Canada unsettles people. Invoke the creeping red moss of the boreal forest, the ancient stone, the dark woods, and something in the imagination shifts. Remind them of the antiquarian character of Montreal, Quebec City, Halifax, and old Toronto, and the country begins to feel older, stranger, and less familiar. I’m no Christian, nor do I have any desire to be, but you’re delusional if you can’t recognize and appreciate the profound impact Christianity has had on the West. For better or worse, and much of it I dislike, it remains part of our heritage, bound up with the history of our ancestors. That inheritance deserves to be respected, even if only at arm’s length. And the same principle applies in reverse: no amount of coping or seething from Christian militants can erase, deny, or denigrate the glory, vitality, and vigour of what came before Christianity.

He’s right. It is the single biggest waste of time on the right. I’ve been around since /pol/ was announced on 4chan back in 2012, and nothing has changed. Nobody has learned anything. No debate over the primacy of Jesus Christ, Odin, or Zeus has ever resulted in anyone changing their mind. The truth is that both Christianity and the various European pagan traditions are part of Western heritage, whether either side wants to admit it or not. There has always been some degree of eclecticism and syncretism between the two. Late Roman Hellenism took certain cues from Christianity, while Christianity itself absorbed and adapted elements of Roman and Hellenistic pagan metaphysics and philosophy. The early Northern Europeans who converted to Christianity also reshaped the religion according to their own social conditions. What had begun largely as an urban, multicultural, and multiethnic faith became, in much of medieval Europe, a religion deeply associated with landowning warrior aristocracies. That reflected the way of life that developed across much of Europe after the fall of the Western Roman Empire. For centuries, Christianity could present God as a supreme Father, a warrior, and a patriarch. In practice, many warrior societies could even interpret Jesus through the cultural lens of a war god, whether or not that interpretation was theologically correct. In your loyalty as a Canadian nationalist, never fall into resentment. We are among the few who regard Canada as a sovereign nation and Canadians as a distinct people. We oppose Chinese, Russian, Ukrainian, Hindutva, Khalistani, Zionist, Intifada, and American influence because these forces undermine Canadian sovereignty and represent some of its greatest obstacles. This guy was a major catalyst for the Conservative Party’s current direction. Reform and the Alliance were the first aspiring Laurentian elites from Western Canada.
