عشاق الكتب | Book Lovers 📖 1. أَنَا عَاشِقٌ لِلْكُتْبِ يَا مَنْ لامَنِي في عِشْقِهَا احْذَرْ أَنْ تَزِلَّ وَتَجْهَلاَ I am a lover of books. O you who blame me for loving them, beware lest you slip into error and speak out of ignorance. 2. فَمَحَبَّتِي لَيْسَتْ لِأَوْرَاقٍ بَدَتْ بَلْ لِلَّذِي تَحْوِيهِ مِنْ نُورٍ جَلاَ My love is not for mere sheets of paper, but for the illuminating light of knowledge they contain. 3. هِيَ لِلشَّرِيعَةِ كَالْوِعَاءِ يَضُمُّهَا مِنْ سُنَّةٍ أَوْ مِنْ كِتَابٍ أُنْزِلاَ They are vessels that preserve the Sharīʿah, containing the Sunnah and the revealed Book. 4. وَهُيَامُنَا فِيهَا صَنِيعٌ يُرْتَجَى مَا لَمْ يُعِقْ عَنْ وَاجِبٍ أَوْ يَشْغَلا Our deep attachment to them is praiseworthy and rewarded, so long as it does not distract us from an obligation or keep us from what is required. 5. فَاجْعَلْ مِنَ الْكُتْبِ الْمَطِيَّةَ لِلتُّقَى وَاغْنَمْ بِهَا الأَجْرَ الْعَظِيمَ الْمُجْزَلاَ So make books your mount on the journey to piety, and through them attain the abundant and magnificent reward. 🖊 أبو عبدالله عبداللطيف بن حسين https://t.me/ushaaqulkutub

﷽ المعروف لا يُعَرَّف، فما هو الكتاب؟ It is a well-established principle among the scholars of Uṣūlul-Fiqh that "the well-known requires no definition" (المعروف لا يُعرَّف). If this is so, then the book—in its physical form—is too universally recognized to require a literal description. Yet, when viewed through the lens of Islamic scholarship, one looks beyond paper, ink, and binding to its true essence and purpose. In the scale of sacred knowledge, a book is: The Guardian of Knowledge It is reported from Imam ash-Shāfiʿī رحمه الله that he said: «العلم صيدٌ والكتابةُ قيدُهُ "Knowledge is the prey, and writing is its tether."» A book is the vessel by which the Prophetic inheritance is preserved, the deductions of the scholars are safeguarded, and knowledge is protected from the calamity of forgetfulness and loss. The Link Between the Predecessors and the Successors A book is not merely a collection of information; it is a living bridge connecting the later generations to the understanding of the righteous predecessors (as-Salaf aṣ-Ṣāliḥ). Through books, the chains of knowledge endure, authentic understanding is transmitted, and the light of revelation continues to illuminate hearts across the centuries. An Honoured Title It is sufficient as a mark of honour that Allah, the Exalted, chose to describe His majestic revelation with this very name: «﴿ذَٰلِكَ الْكِتَابُ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ﴾ "This is the Book about which there is no doubt." (Al-Baqarah: 2)» Thus, in the tradition of the scholars, a book is far more than a physical object. ﷽ Qays ibn al-Mulawwaḥ, the well-known Arab poet, popularly known as Majnūn Laylā, composed famous verses describing the intensity of his love for Laylā, declaring that he loved even the walls of her dwelling—not for the walls themselves, but for the one who once lived there, he said: أَمُرُّ عَلَى الدِّيَارِ دِيَارِ لَيْلَى أُقَبِّلُ ذَا الْجِدَارَ وَذَا الْجِدَارَا وَمَا حُبُّ الدِّيَارِ شَغَفْنَ قَلْبِي وَلَكِنْ حُبُّ مَنْ سَكَنَ الدِّيَارَا Inspired by that imagery, I wrote this معارضة (poetic imitation), redirecting that love to something far more deserving: beneficial knowledge and its books. «أَمُرُّ عَلَى كِتَابٍ فِي الْعُلُومِ فَأَعْشَقُ ذَا الْكِتَابَ وَذَا الْكِتَابا وَمَا حُبُّ الْكِتَابِ عَلَا جَنَانِي وَلَكِنْ حُبُّ مَا مَلَأَ الْكِتَابَا» 🖊 أبو عبدالله عبداللطيف بن حسين https://t.me/ushaaqulkutub
