The earthquake triggered a tsunami warning, caused widespread damage, and displaced thousands of people. As rescue and relief efforts continue, the death toll has continued to rise, with dozens of lives lost and hundreds injured. Meanwhile, Kalimantan is facing another devastating crisis. Forest and land fires have intensified across the island, with thousands of hotspots recorded throughout Kalimantan in August. The fires threaten forests, wildlife, livelihoods, public health, and the communities living in and around affected areas. Thick haze has already disrupted daily life and reduced air quality in several regions. ‼️ NTT is grieving. ‼️ Kalimantan is burning And we refuse to look away. We call upon the President of the Republic of Indonesia and the entire cabinet to take immediate, concrete, and accountable action. We demand swift emergency response, adequate protection and assistance for affected communities, transparent distribution of relief, stronger disaster mitigation, and decisive measures to prevent further environmental destruction.
