What's driving this? AI. The surge reflects how AI tools — from code generators to content engines — are dramatically lowering the cost of starting and running a company. One person can now handle what previously required entire teams: design, programming, marketing, customer support — all running in parallel.
The paradox worth noting: this isn't happening in a country known for startup culture or remote work freedom. Unlike in the US, where solo entrepreneurship is often tied to gig work, China's OPC boom is being hardwired into industrial policy. More than 20 Chinese cities have worked one-person companies into their development plans, with perks ranging from incubator spaces to subsidies to cover computing costs.
The data backs up what the best builders already sense intuitively. 92% of the most profitable solo companies deeply integrate AI tools, significantly reducing overhead. It's no longer unusual for a solo founder to achieve $1M+ in annual revenue with almost no rent and minimal labor costs — by treating AI as their operating system.
This matters for every builder in our community. Because what's unfolding in China isn't a cultural anomaly — it's a preview. The same forces are available to anyone with internet access and the willingness to build differently.
The real competitive advantage in the next few years won't be your team size. It won't even be your funding. It'll be how effectively one person can orchestrate intelligent systems to do the work of many.
The one-person company is no longer the backup plan — it's the blueprint. It's becoming the most capital-efficient business structure ever invented.
The question is whether you'll be the one deploying them — or waiting to see what happens.
