went to finc’s off season demo day I think seeing such a dense amount of projects in one place makes you realize just how valuable these accelerators are many of the startups we saw only arrived to the program with an idea, and just a few months later they already have so much to show for their time here when there’s a will there’s a way put to the extreme :)

couple of days ago Akmal aka (@paiziev24 ) came into the office and gave us a quick how to grow 101 class more than anything, Akmal aka always does everything extremely quickly (not just in business, in requests you have for him, people he said he’d connect you to, etc) in a world where everything constantly gets delayed, I think it’s this constant quick, sharp speed that is his ultimate moat (though the business insights with so much experience are definitely priceless) additionally, he recommended lots of shows/podcasts that further reinforce my belief: you are what you consume you can gaslight yourself into becoming the person you want by constantly filling your mind with that type of knowledge (works the opposite way as well, so be careful what you’re deciding to stick in your noggin)

when people around you believe in you, it gives you wings which becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy: you meet their high expectations. for people who don’t bet on you or don’t believe in your abilities, your perceived performance will always match their low expectations.  this is why you're more likely to succeed when you have people around you who believe in you. (attached is a story I remember hearing in middle school, though I do not know its origins.)

sometimes I worry my channel is too much of acting like I know everything, and I feel the need to supplement any ideas I have with "proof" or info from more established people I think this stems from a couple things: 1. I would not take advice from a random 21 year old who has done....what exactly? 2. I did journalism for a long time, so I've gotten used to having to cite things in order to be opinionated 3. I feel validation when someone more established mirrors a frame of thinking I have (confirmation bias? I don't exactly post on my channel when they completely oppose a view I have) and I then gain the confidence to share it, I do not want to share my own half-baked ideologies all that to say I definitely overthink all of this, most likely my channel would be a lot more interesting if I were to be more picture/event-based, or post more sf outtakes

a college consultant can write your essays for you (not at freshman, but yk some sketchy ones def do) but they cannot give you the benefits of learning how to write effectively: “Writing is an R&D lab for your brain. was talking with someone yesterday and they essentially said a market I was targeting is pretty crowded but to me a market worth not entering is only one where there's 2-3 major companies/monopolized all you really need to beat competitors in newly emerging markets are 1. do one aspect slightly better 2. be a hell of a lot louder about what you're doing something external to support since I am just a 21 year old thinking my little thoughts -> Pat Walls (of Starter Story) says: every business idea is taken? BULLSH*T. do it simpler. do it smarter. do it faster. do it better. do it cheaper. do it in a new country. do it with better design. do it automated. do it personalized. do it with a social mission. do it sustainably. do it with top-notch service. do it on subscription. do it for women. do it friendlier. do it for a smaller audience. do it for a bigger audience. do it premium. do it retro. do it modern. do it nostalgic. do it luxurious. do it affordable. do it bundled. do it a la carte. do it fun. find a proven idea and do it different.

work hard when you’re young for the same reason you should start investing/saving when you're younger. skills/knowledge compound just like wealth and the harder you work when you’re young, the further you get when you’re older and when your time is more expensive with more responsibilities and lower energy levels. when you’re young, your time is practically free, use it wisely. don’t get stuck in “doing things that don’t scale” mode. at some point, you have to start doing things that do scale.

the ability to focus for extended periods of time to do deep work is at massive deficit (hence a premium) in this distracted world. if your mind is broken with constant notifications and communication apps, regain control over it asap. if you can’t even focus for a minute, don’t try to focus for an hour. start with 10 mins, and slowly try to move your life to single-task based things. let any urges actually take shape in your mind, pay attention to them like moving clouds, but don’t act on them. I started out pretty small (walks, cutting out music, etc) but now have gotten back to reading full books, being able to digest multiple academic articles in a sitting, and quality of output gets dramatically higher. I think around April/May I was becoming a bit of a dopamine slave, so this has been a refreshing switch. we have limited cognitive load, and it should only be spent unnecessarily if it 1. generates value 2. gives joy (not the instant kind) 3. lets your mind wander (boredom is where ideas ferment)

in a world of hyper-efficiency, the 2 hour commute gets bad press. however, the upside is that (for me at least) most frequently these are 2 hours spent with one's self: journaling, reading, writing, reflecting. additional points if the commute does not include a stable connection to wifi so the urge to be "productive" or "online" is less intense.
