"As far as I know, almost the only thinking people who remain enthusiastic about technology are those who stand to profit from it in some way, such as scientists, engineers, corporate executives and military men. A much larger number of people are cynical about modern society and have lost faith in its institutions.
They no longer respect a political system in which the most despicable candidates can be successfully sold to the public through sophisticated propaganda techniques.
They are contemptuous of an electronic entertainment industry that feeds us garbage. They know that schoolchildren are being drugged (with Ritalin, etc.) to keep them docile in the classroom, they know that species are becoming extinct at an abnormal rate, that environmental catastrophe is a very real possibility, and that technology is driving us all into the unknown at reckless speed, with consequences that may be utterly disastrous.
But, because they have no hope that the technological juggernaut can be stopped, they have grown apathetic.
They simply accept technological progress and its consequences as unavoidable evils, and they try not to think about the future..."
West Coasters - look at the prices at your local gas station. Are the numbers as low as they looked a week ago? Is the war in Iran for you, or is it for another group of people?
Where are Epstein's co conspirators? David Gelernter, one of the Unabomber's targets, walks the streets of Woodbridge Connecticut a free man after it was revealed he and Epstein communicated for 6 years.
The man who tried murdering Gelernter was sentenced to 4 consecutive life sentences + 30 years while you walk the street with open pedophiles who will never see the inside of a jail cell.
“In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.”
- Mark Twain
It is said that we live in a free society because we have
a certain number of constitutionally guaranteed rights. But these are not as important as they seem.
The degree of personal freedom that exists in a society is determined more by the economic and technological structure of the society than by its laws or its form of government. Most of the Indian nations of New England were monarchies, and many of the cities of the Italian Renaissance were controlled by dictators. But in reading about these societies one gets the impression that they allowed far more personal freedom than our society does.
In part this was because they lacked efficient mechanisms for enforcing the ruler's will: There were no modern, well-organized police forces, no rapid long distance communications, no surveillance cameras, no dossiers of information about the lives of average citizens. Hence it was relatively easy to evade control.

“In the beginning nature made man a contending animal. Are we not all Greeks or Trojans? We must therefore make up our minds for a life of continual battle. We must fight, - say, morning, noon and night, if need be, against an entire world.”
— Arthur Desmond
Leftists tend to hate anything that has an image of being strong, good and successful. They hate America, they hate Western civilization, they hate white males, they hate rationality. The reasons that leftists give for hating the
West, etc., clearly do not correspond with their real motives.
They SAY they hate the West because it is warlike, imperialistic, sexist, ethnocentric and so forth, but where these same faults appear in socialist countries or in primitive cultures, the leftist finds excuses for them, or at best he GRUDGINGLY admits that they exist; whereas he ENTHUSIASTICALLY points out (and often greatly exaggerates) these faults where they appear in Western civilization.
Thus it is clear that these faults are not the leftist's real
motive for hating America and the West. He hates America
and the West because they are strong and successful.

"...In the second category are people who are appalled at modern technology and actually aspire to accomplish something against the technological system, but have no practical sense of how to go about it.
At a purely tactical level some of these people may have excellent practical sense;
they may know very well, for example, how to organize a demonstration against some particular atrocity that is being committed against our environment. But when it comes to grand strategy, they are at a loss.
Most perhaps recognize that any victory against an environmental atrocity or other technology-related evil can only be temporary, at best, as long as the technological system remains in existence. But they can think of nothing better to do than to continue attacking particular evils while vaguely hoping that their work will somehow help to solve the overall problem of technology.
In reality their work is counterproductive, because it distracts attention from the technological system itself as the underlying source of the evils and leads people to focus instead on problems of limited significance that moreover cannot be permanently solved while the technological system continues to exist."
- Anti-Tech Revolution: Why and How (preface)
"There are many people today who see that modern society is heading toward disaster in one form or another, and who moreover recognize technology as the common thread linking the principal dangers that hang over us.
Nearly all such people fall into one of two categories:
First, there are those who are appalled at what technology is doing to our society and our planet, but are not motivated to take any action against the technological system because they feel helpless to accomplish anything in that direction.
They read an anti-tech book-say, for example, Jacques Ellul's Technological Society - and it makes them feel better because they've found someone who has eloquently articulated their own anxieties about technology.
But the effect soon wears off and their discomfort with the technological world begins to nag them again, so they turn for relief to another anti-tech book - Ivan Illich, Kirkpatrick Sale, Daniel Qyinn, my own Industrial Society and Its Future, or something else - and the cycle repeats itself.
In other words, for these people anti-tech literature is merely a kind of therapy: It alleviates their discomfort with technology, but it does not serve them as a call to action..."
This writer claims that a person who demonstrates through actions that maximizing comfort and happiness is their highest moral value is very likely to be a Leftist, become a Leftist, or raise a Leftist. As Leftism is a natural logical conclusion of this kind of moral principle.
When pressed into action, many Americans (especially in urban or coastal areas) will default to maximizing the total happiness and comfort everyone experiences as the highest moral value that determines their actions. This kind of person may believe in 'forgiving and forgetting'. They may believe in spreading 'love, not war', and they may choose to avoid negative interactions of any kind, even if such avoidance leads to bigger problems for them and others down the road.
In Europe, at least from the fall of Rome to the Enlightenment, the dominant principle was following the teachings of Jesus Christ. Therefore it can be said that Christ was the highest moral value of europeans at this time.
Alternatively, in China, where morality by comparison is far less about doing the "right" thing and more about doing the "correct" thing, or otherwise risk the death or disenfranchisement of your relatives, it can be said that the highest moral value is supporting one's family.
