URGENT APPEAL: Prevent the Impending Execution of Ali Dashti – Immediate Action Required
متن ایمیل :
Dear Member of the European Parliament, We are writing to you with the utmost urgency regarding the fate of Ali Dashti, a young Iranian prisoner who is now at imminent risk of execution and has been transferred to solitary confinement – the final step before carrying out a death sentence. Mr. Dashti, born in 2006, was arrested in connection with the nationwide protests of January 2026 in Isfahan. At the time of his arrest, he was under 18 years old – a minor under international law. He was sentenced to death by Branch 9 of Isfahan’s Revolutionary Court on the charge of “moharebeh” (enmity against God). His death sentence was subsequently upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court and referred to the Enforcement of Judgments Unit for implementation. We are profoundly alarmed to report that on the morning of July 18, 2026, Mr. Dashti – along with 11 other prisoners whose death sentences have been confirmed – was forcibly transferred to solitary confinement in Dastgerd Prison, Isfahan. In Iranian judicial practice, this transfer is widely recognised as the final procedural step before execution, and it has intensified fears that their executions may be carried out at any moment. The gravity of this situation is underscored by developments in the same case: · On July 19, 2026, two co‑defendants – Gol‑Mohammad Mohammadi and Erfan Esfandiari – were executed. · On July 21, 2026, Mr. Dashti’s family was informed that they should come to the prison for a final visit – a practice that invariably precedes execution. We urgently call upon you to demonstrate immediate action and response by: 1. Publicly condemning the imminent execution of Ali Dashti and his co‑defendants, and calling on Iranian authorities to halt all execution procedures immediately. 2. Using every parliamentary and diplomatic channel at your disposal – including direct engagement with the Iranian mission to the EU, statements in plenary sessions, and coordination with the European External Action Service – to intervene without delay. 3. Demanding that Iranian authorities ensure full transparency and due process, and that any legal proceedings against Mr. Dashti comply rigorously with international human rights standards, particularly regarding the prohibition of torture and the right to a fair trial. 4. Coordinating with fellow MEPs to table an emergency resolution or joint statement on this case. The judicial proceedings in this case have been marred by grave procedural violations: the defendants were tried collectively in closed hearings, denied effective access to lawyers of their own choosing, and subjected to torture and coerced into making forced confessions. The fact that Mr. Dashti was a minor at the time of his arrest makes his death sentence particularly egregious under international law, which prohibits the execution of individuals for crimes committed while under the age of 18. International attention can be a lifeline for individuals facing such grave danger. Every hour counts. We implore you not to remain silent – your voice and your action can make the difference between life and death for Ali Dashti. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to human rights. We await your urgent response. Respectfully, Concerned Citizens
