The Weight of Nothing Did you know that 95% of the universe is completely invisible to us? Everything we can see, touch, and interact with—stars, planets, trees, and even our own bodies—makes up only about 5% of the universe. The rest is composed of Dark Matter (about 27%) and Dark Energy (about 68%). We know they exist because of their gravitational effects, but we still don't know exactly what they are! Why Ships Float But Needles Sink? How can a massive steel ship float on water, while a tiny steel needle sinks instantly? The secret lies in a physics principle called buoyancy. A needle is solid steel, so it is denser than water and sinks. However, a ship is not a solid block of metal—it is mostly filled with empty space and air. Because of this shape, the ship displaces an amount of water that weighs equal to or more than the ship itself. This creates an upward force that keeps the heavy ship safely afloat. 🏗The Man Who Saved the Brooklyn Bridge: Washington Roebling When the Chief Engineer of the Brooklyn Bridge, John A. Roebling, died from an accident just as construction began in 1869, the project seemed doomed. His 32-year-old son, Washington Roebling, stepped up to take his place. To build the bridge's massive foundations, workers had to labor inside "caissons"—giant underwater wooden boxes pumped with compressed air. Washington spent countless hours down there with his men. Disaster struck when he developed decompression sickness (the "bends"), leaving him paralyzed, partially blind, and unable to visit the site. Refusing to give up, Washington watched the construction through binoculars from his apartment window. His wife, Emily Warren Roebling, became his eyes and hands. She learned higher mathematics and bridge engineering to relay his precise technical instructions to the field engineers. Together, they completed the engineering marvel in 1883. 🏗 Bridge Competition At the Engineering Club🏫 Just a month ago, most of the students in our Engineering Club hadn't given much thought to the design of bridges, but that was all about to change. On May 18, our Grade 5, 6, and 7 students put their knowledge to the test. Their challenge was simple: 🔹Build a bridge using only wooden sticks. 🔹Design it to hold as much weight as possible. The results were not what anyone has expected 🥇 Our best bridge managed to hold a whopping 33 kg. 🥉 The weakest bridge still held about 3 kg. But the most impressive part wasn't the numbers.🌟 Watching students think like engineers was amazing: they were sketching out ideas, testing their designs, and learning from their mistakes. They'd rebuild and try again, always looking for ways to improve. By trying, failing, and trying again, they developed the skills they need to succeed. As the winning team also mentioned:

🎉 The 10-Day Engineering Webinar Series Has Come to an End! Over the past 10 days, we hosted sessions with students, engineers, researchers, and innovators from various STEM fields. Participants had the opportunity to learn from their experiences, explore different career paths, and ask questions directly to the speakers. Of course, not everything went perfectly. We faced technical issues and made mistakes along the way. Nevertheless, we successfully completed the series, and we hope it provided valuable insights and inspiration for many students. A huge thank you to all of our speakers and everyone who joined and supported the series. As our first webinar series of this scale, it taught us many lessons.
