📍Lexington, Massachusetts
Captian Parker was a prominent Massachusetts militia officer and commander of the Lexington Minutemen at the start of the American Revolution.
On the morning of April 19, 1775, he led roughly 70–77 militiamen onto Lexington Common to confront a force of about 700–800 advancing British regulars. Greatly outnumbered, Parker ordered his men to stand their ground. The ensuing skirmish marked the opening clash of the Revolution.
Though wounded in the fighting, Parker continued to help organize local militia resistance and took part in the pursuit of the British as they retreated from Concord.
Parker died of tuberculosis at the age of 46.

The Von Trapp Chapel is a small, humble stone chapel nestled in the wooded hills of the Von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort. Built by Werner von Trapp (one of the sons from the family that inspired The Sound of Music) after World War II as a vow of thanksgiving for his safe return from combat with the U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division, it was constructed over several years in the late 1940s by hauling local stones up the hillside. The simple structure, with its stone walls and wooden interior, serves as a quiet place for reflection and prayer, accessible via a short but steep hike from the lodge, and reflects the family’s Austrian Catholic heritage amid the scenic Green Mountains.
