A man was nearly pushed in front of an oncoming light rail train in Seattle
The suspect has been identified as Elisio Melendez.
Melendez reportedly has a documented history of mental illness, including schizophrenia, and has previously been found incompetent to stand trial, resulting in placement in psychiatric care.
He has spent years in and out of treatment. In 2018, he randomly punched a woman in a church, leaving her in need of stitches. In 2019, he was arrested in connection with the stabbing of his sister.
All criminal cases against him were ultimately dropped after multiple evaluations found him unable to stand trial.
