Monarch butterflies rely on milkweed because it’s the only plant where they lay their eggs, and it’s the only food monarch caterpillars can eat. The milkweed’s natural toxins make the caterpillars—and eventually the butterflies—less appealing to predators. Planting native milkweed is one of the simplest ways to help support monarch populations right in your own backyard 💗
