"Friends", 1881 Swiss artist: Louise Catherine Breslau (1856–1927) Canvas, oil; 85.1×160 cm Museum of Art and History, Geneva Drawing was Louise Breslau’s escape from boredom. As a frail child, she was sent to a monastery for care. Later, she moved to Paris to study at the academy. After gaining recognition at the Paris Salon—her first exhibition in 1879—she opened her own studio. This painting depicts Louise with her roommates (an opera singer and another painter).
