i think the more a person gets, the more ungrateful they become. last year (those of you who have been here for an year now know) i was over the moon because for the first time in my life someone had put genuine effort into my birthday. there were handmade gifts and books and little details that made me genuinely happy. i was so grateful. this year the same people gave me even more gifts and for a moment, a thought crossed my mind that "yaar mujhe nhi pasand ye gifts". the second i caught myself thinking that i was disgusted with myself because last year this would've been everything i'd wished for. so how could i suddenly become this person? then i was reminded of something called hedonic adaptation. human beings get used to good things incredibly fast. what once was unimaginable and beautiful eventually starts feeling normal and our expectations rise without us even noticing. that's why gratitude isn't something that will stay with you forever. you will have to practice it consciously. i'm just grateful that i caught myself in time because i never want to forget the person who would've cried tears of happiness over itna sara efforts.
