On February 25, 2026, during early morning hours, a police team transporting accused Ranjit Singh (apprehended on February 24, 2026 in connection with the killing of two Punjab Police officials) met with an accident due to dense fog and poor visibility. The government vehicle overturned near Behrampur, District Gurdaspur, following which the accused escaped. A search and chase operation was immediately launched, culminating in an encounter (0630–0645 hrs) near Gurudwara Bibi Sundri, village Nawapind Bahadur, where the accused sustained fatal injuries and was later declared deceased. Further developments are awaited.
