Former President Donald Trump has selected Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance as his running mate, Trump announced on social media Monday. New video shows some attendees at the Donald Trump rally in Pennsylvania noticed the gunman on the roof at least one minute before the shooting. The video shows what appears to be at least one law enforcement officer walking around the building. A Secret Service spokesman told CNN the agency did not personally sweep the building where an attempted assassin shot Trump, but instead leaned on local law enforcement to conduct security at that location. President Joe Biden called for a lowering of the political temperature in America and for unity in an Oval Office address one day following the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

It began like any other campaign rally — one that photographer Evan Vucci had covered a hundred times before for the Associated Press. Then, in a flash, it was chaos. “Over my left shoulder. I heard some pops, and I knew right away it was gunfire,” Vucci said of Saturday’s assassination attempt. “At that moment, I trained my lens on the stage, and I saw the Secret Service agents coming in and covering (Trump) up. From there, I just went into work mode, and I just started doing my job.” While many at the rally took cover, Vucci and other photojournalists leapt into action. Doug Mills has been covering presidents for more than 40 years now. The New York Times photographer had never experienced anything like he did. “It was so fast and so chaotic and frightening as hell,” he said. Before the shooting, Mills had been moving around the stage, getting different angles of Trump before settling just below the podium and looking up. Then he heard the gunshots, which he thought might have been a motorcycle or maybe a tractor backfiring. It was from this vantage point that Mills would capture one of the most famous photos of the shooting. It just took him a while to realize it. The rally-goer who was killed during the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump has been identified as firefighter Corey Comperatore, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said Sunday. "Corey was a girl dad," Shapiro said. "Corey was a firefighter. Corey went to church every Sunday. Corey loved his community. Most especially, Corey loved his family." "Corey was an avid supporter of the former president and was so excited to be there last night with him in the community," the governor said. "I asked Corey's wife if it would be OK for me to share that we spoke. She said 'yes.' She also asked that I share with all of you that Corey died a hero," Shapiro added. Former President Donald Trump was about 400 to 500 feet from the gunman at the time of the shooting at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, according to CNN's analysis of their geolocated positions. The FBI has identified the gunman as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. Authorities say he fired multiple shots from a building rooftop just outside the rally venue before he was killed by Secret Service agents. Crooks had explosive material inside his car and residence, according to law enforcement sources. Authorities used the gun to help determine the shooter's identity, as he did not have identification on him, according to law enforcement sources. Trump was injured in the shooting, which the FBI says was an assassination attempt. The gunman and an audience member were killed, the Secret Service said. Read more at the link in our bio.

She was 53. “It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease,” Doherty’s publicist Leslie Sloane said in a statement to the publication.
