Его начал писать величайший османский каллиграф Ахмед Шемседдин Карахисари (1468–1556) по заказу султана Сулеймана Великолепного. Завершил работу уже его ученик Хасан Челеби.
Карахисари виртуозно сочетал пять разных каллиграфических стилей, среди которых мухаккак, райхани, сулюс и насх. Каждая страница уникальна и обрамлена сложнейшими узорами (тезхиб) из сусального золота, лазурита и цветочных орнаментов.

Finely carved head of Medusa, approximately 20mm x 26mm, oiled fissures, in hexagonal mount set with old cut diamonds, with graduated cushion cut diamonds to the bale, overall 50mm x 30mm.
Emeralds are notoriously brittle and extremely difficult to carve, which is why this particular pendant is so rare.
There is a carved emerald cameo with the head of Medusa in the British Museum and another was sold by Sotheby's Geneva, Lot 303, Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels 2018.
In jewellery, the head of Medusa has long been worn as an amulet to ward off evil.

The Burning Monk refers to Thích Quảng Đức, a Vietnamese Buddhist monk who self-immolated in 1963 in Saigon to protest the South Vietnamese government’s discrimination against Buddhists.
He sat in meditation while being set on fire, and a famous photograph of the event shocked the world. His act drew global attention to the crisis and increased pressure on the government, making it one of the most iconic protest images in history.
