Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the dismantling of unauthorized settler outposts in the occupied West Bank, according to the Associated Press, citing two people familiar with the matter. The order applies to outposts established without official authorization from the Israeli state. Israeli website Ynet reported that around 100 outposts could be targeted, although it remains unclear when any operation will begin. The move comes amid pressure from the US over settler violence against Palestinians. US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee recently condemned violent settlers as “terrorists” and called for severe consequences. Separately, Israel’s Supreme Court ruled that defense authorities must enable three Palestinian families to safely return to their homes in the West Bank village of Jalud, after they were forced out by settlers. As Saxony-Anhalt heads to the polls in an election in which the far-right AfD hopes to take power at state level for the first time in post-war German history, Germany's commissioner for eastern Germany explains why the region has become such fertile ground for the party. When the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, mass unemployment followed almost overnight. Wages and savings remain lower than in the west.  Eastern Germans make up a fifth of the population but are still under-represented in politics. And many carry what the commissioner calls a collective memory of "devaluation and loss." Ukraine President Zelenskyy accused Russia of striking Kyiv's two airports overnight and a civilian target in the Dnipro region that killed five people, calling the attacks a 'reaction to the preparations' for the envoys' visit. Traveling to Kyiv by plane would be a highly unusual move, with Ukrainian airspace closed since 2022 because of the conflict. Visiting leaders and officials have largely traveled by train. Groups of masked men dressed in black disrupted traffic around the English port of Dover on Saturday, blocking major roads leading to the main ferry hub for crossings to France. The protesters, some wearing balaclavas, chanted “Stop the boats” in reference to asylum seekers arriving on England’s south coast in small boats from France. Police said officers were at the scene and engaging with protesters. The road blockages caused disruption during the morning, but access to the port had been restored by around midday, according to the Port of Dover and P&O Ferries. Successive UK governments have struggled to reduce the number of people making the dangerous Channel crossing in overcrowded inflatable boats. As many as 83 people may have died aboard a boat rescued off Spain's Canary Islands, amid conflicting accounts of the death toll. Maritime rescue authorities said on Thursday that five had died, while a migrant rights group reported that survivors said dozens more had died during the crossing. Helena Maleno, founder of the NGO Walking Borders, said on social media that survivors reported that 83 people, including three women and a baby, had died during the crossing. The boat had left The Gambia 27 days earlier. The Atlantic route from West Africa to the Canary Islands is one of the world's deadliest crossings for migrants fleeing poverty, conflict and persecution. The long journey from West Africa to the Spanish territory of the Canaries is extremely dangerous due to rough seas, strong currents and the often ramshackle, overloaded vessels.
