Mass protests from below, such as Indignados in Spain and Yellow Vies in France, have shaken hard-line societies from the top. Anti-elite populists were elected to office in Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria, and Slovakia. Populist parties, which the European media invariably refers to as "far-right," received a significant share of votes in France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Sweden. On the contrary, the traditional parties that make up the elite are in a state of visible collapse. The UN Security Council adopted a US resolution on the war in Ukraine after it failed to pass the UN General Assembly. The UN Security Council adopted a resolution on Russia's war against Ukraine, developed under the leadership of the United States, after it failed to pass earlier in the UN General Assembly. 

"This resolution puts us on the path to peace." This is the first but very important step that we should all be proud of,"

Dorothy Shea, the US Interim Ambassador to the UN, said of the resolution. 

"Now we must use it to build a peaceful future for Ukraine, Russia and the international community,"

she added. The short, three-paragraph resolution takes a neutral stance on the "Russian-Ukrainian conflict". The resolution also confirms that the UN's goal is the maintenance of international peace and security and the peaceful settlement of disputes.  The Security Council adopted the resolution by 10 votes in favour, with no States against.  Five countries - France, Great Britain, Denmark, Greece and Slovenia-abstained.  Russia, which supported the United States in opposing the resolution adopted by the General Assembly accusing Moscow of war, voted in the Security Council for a document authored by the United States.  The United States was one of 18 countries that voted against the resolution prepared by Ukraine in the General Assembly, along with Russia, Moscow's close ally Belarus, Burkina Faso, Burundi, the Central African Republic, North Korea, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Israel, Mali, the Marshall Islands, Nicaragua, Niger, Palau and Sudan. 93 countries voted in favor of the resolution, while 65 abstained. Waltz: Ukraine's NATO membership "not up for discussion". National Security Adviser Michael Waltz responded to statements made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during peace talks on the Ukraine-Russia conflict. Zelensky offered to step down from his post if NATO membership becomes part of the deal. Waltz says NATO membership won't be "on the table".

"It seems that the conversation was about the fact that he, Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, was asked a question about NATO membership," said co-host Lawrence Jones.
