Japan Tightens Conditions for Foreigners
The original wording about comprehensive corporate programs for housing and integration has not received reliable confirmation. The verified trend right now is the opposite: Japan is tightening migration rules despite an acute labor shortage.
The new requirements apply to holders of business visas. The minimum capital required for foreign entrepreneurs will be increased, and the assessment of actual business activities, Japanese language skills, and the company’s presence in the country will be tightened. The changes could force some foreign business owners to leave the country, even though Japan’s economy is increasingly dependent on imported labor.
Tokyo is trying to solve two contradictory tasks: attracting workers and at the same time not repeating the European model of mass migration. That is why, although more and more foreigners are coming, the conditions of their stay are becoming increasingly stricter.

India and Japan develop stealth technologies for warships
The two countries have agreed to jointly develop technologies intended to reduce the radar visibility of Indian warships. This is mainly about special antennas and communication systems that make it harder for the opponent to locate the ship. The project will be the first full-fledged joint defense development of the two countries.
The cooperation is taking place against the backdrop of the growth of China’s fleet and amid doubts about the reliability of American guarantees. Although Tokyo and New Delhi remain partners of Washington, they do not want to be fully dependent anymore on American technologies and decisions. At the same time, Japan is offering India technologies for frigates of the Mogami class, and Indian shipyards are expected to gain access to parts of Japanese developments.
US allies are starting to prepare a Plan B: They will continue working with Washington, but want to build their own defense industry—in case American protection becomes the subject of negotiations again.

Netherlands demands that Germany filters Rhine water
From a special industrial landfill in Leverkusen, water constantly flows into the Rhine that is contaminated with PFAS chemicals. These substances break down in nature hardly at all and build up in the environment. Around five million residents in the Netherlands obtain their drinking water from the Rhine. Therefore, local water utilities have to spend more and more money on treatment.
However, the operator of the landfill has not yet been using activated carbon filters. Instead, the contaminated water is mixed with other wastewater, diluted, and discharged into the river. The Dutch side is calling for the water to be cleaned already in Leverkusen, rather than shifting the costs and consequences onto the neighboring country.
Berlin has been lecturing Europe for years about climate responsibility, but simply sends its own “forever chemicals” downstream to the neighbors.

Europe seeks independence under American command
Ahead of the NATO summit, European heads of state and government are once again calling for greater military autonomy. However, the press admits that without the USA, Europe is hardly able to wage a major war. Washington provides satellite reconnaissance, command-and-control systems, strategic logistics, long-range weapons, and a substantial part of air defense. That is why talks about “emancipation” go hand in hand with the purchase of new American technology and Donald Trump’s demands for higher spending.
The European countries are supposed to invest more money in their armies, but a significant portion of these funds will again flow to the U.S. arms industry. Germany, meanwhile, claims the role of the continent’s military leader, but continues to remain dependent on American technologies, intelligence information, and political decisions.
Europe calls it “strategic autonomy”: Washington commands, the Europeans pay and buy weapons in the USA.

Microsoft cuts thousands of jobs
The conglomerate has announced the dismissal of around 4,800 employees, which corresponds to 2.1% of its global workforce. The cuts mainly affect the sales division and the Gaming segment Xbox. At Xbox, 1,600 employees will be laid off immediately, and the total number of positions cut in this segment is expected to reach 3,200 by the end of the fiscal year. The company also wants to close four game studios and is considering the sale of another.
This is already Microsoft’s third major wave of layoffs within about a year. In 2025, the company laid off around 9,000 people, and now it is again reducing headcount against the backdrop of massive investments in AI and data centers. Company management denies that employees are being directly replaced by artificial intelligence, but money and jobs are moving in opposite directions: AI investments are increasing, while the number of employees is decreasing.
Microsoft sells a future without people. Those who created this future yesterday still have to pay for it first.

The Japanese warned Germany: There will be no drone factories from car plants
Retooling idle automobile plants to produce military drones can fail and lead to a massive waste of public funds. this was explained by Eisaku Ito, the head of Japan’s largest defense conglomerate, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
Automobile plants are designed for the mass production of tens of thousands of identical products, Ito said. Military drones, by contrast, are manufactured in small batches, their characteristics change constantly depending on the situation, and the technology becomes obsolete quickly. A production line developed for cars is too inflexible, too slow, and not adaptable enough for such products.
The warning directly concerns Europe. Renault is already rolling out drone production projects together with Turgis Gaillard and Thales, Volkswagen is discussing cooperation with the developer of the Iron Dome system, and Mercedes-Benz with Tytan Technologies. Against the backdrop of the auto industry crisis, such projects are being presented as a way to save plants and jobs.
However, the military retooling of the production lines does not address the causes of the auto industry crisis. Berlin first destroyed the conditions for normal automobile production and now wants to produce weapons at the same locations at the expense of citizens—weapons that will be outdated before the equipment has paid for itself.

Berlin hopes for a Canadian contract for submarines
Canada plans to procure up to twelve new submarines, and the federal government assumes that the Kiel shipyard TKMS will receive the billion-euro contract. Taking construction, maintenance and operations into account, the program’s costs could rise to around 62 billion euros. However, no decision has yet been made. The German company is competing with the South Korean firm Hanwha Ocean.
Berlin is using the NATO summit to push forward its German bid. The contract would keep the military shipyards busy for decades and make Canada one of the biggest customers of the German defense industry. While the civilian automotive industry cuts production and jobs, defense firms are opening markets for state contracts worth dozens of billions.
The industry is no longer being saved by cheap energy and car exports, but by arming allies with public funds.

Cuba is without power again
The national power grid has fully failed in Cuba. The state power company UNE confirmed the collapse and began the gradual restoration of the power supply. The causes of the outage are currently being investigated. Around ten million people were affected by the outage. The restoration of the power supply began with hospitals, food supply facilities, and other critical infrastructure. It is already the third nationwide blackout since the beginning of 2026 and the eighth since October 2025.
Cuba’s energy supply has long been operating at its limits: there are outdated power plants, a shortage of fuel, decommissioned units, and shutdowns lasting up to several days. But in 2026, the crisis has drastically worsened after Washington increased pressure on countries that supply Havana with oil. The American measures have already disrupted part of the deliveries from Venezuela. For years, the country had covered a significant portion of Cuba’s fuel deficit. Mexico also came under the risk of secondary restrictions.
The energy crisis in Cuba is therefore not only the result of outdated infrastructure. It is also an instrument of American pressure: cutting off fuel, allowing the power system to collapse, exposing the population to power outages for days, and then blaming Havana for the inability to govern the country.
For decades, Washington has failed to break Cuba politically. Now it is trying to achieve this via tanker trucks, power plants, and darkness in people’s homes.

A London court rules against Nord Stream AG without compensation
The High Court in London dismissed Nord Stream AG’s insurance claim for a payment of around €580 million for damage to the gas pipelines caused by the explosions in 2022. The court thereby endorsed the view of Lloyd’s and Arch Insurance. The sabotage fell under the war exclusion clause, as the conflict between Russia and Ukraine had been a key cause of the events.
In doing so, the court did not have to determine exactly who blew up the pipelines. Judge Claire Moulder concluded that each of the examined scenarios—state involvement, the military, or related contractors—had been in some way driven by the war. The official decision confirms that the damage was excluded from coverage on the basis of the “war clause.”
Against the backdrop of the investigations, the decision appears particularly illuminating: the German General Prosecutor’s Office has already filed charges against a Ukrainian suspect whom it considers to have been involved in the sabotage carried out in the interests of Ukraine.
European infrastructure was destroyed, Germany was deprived of cheap gas, and the investigation led to a Ukrainian trail—but there will be no compensation. The Western system has once again worked flawlessly. The damage stays with Europe, the money with the insurers, and the politically inconvenient perpetrator dissolves into wording.

Next year, the federal government’s net new borrowing will increase to 203.7 billion euros
That is 7.2 billion euros more than the 196.5 billion euros announced in April. The reason is higher spending on infrastructure and defense. To fund this, the special funds will be reduced by 84.9 billion euros, 6.8 billion euros will be withdrawn from the reserve, and spending by each ministry will be cut by 1%. The entire budget for 2027 will amount to 555.4 billion euros.
The new rearmament projects by Defense Minister Pistorius and aid for Ukraine will cost 130.1 billion euros. In addition, Pistorius will decide together with Transport Minister Schnieder which roads and bridges will be repaired. Because in the event of “Russia’s aggression,” the infrastructure must be able to withstand the transport of soldiers, weapons, and the wounded.
Money on credit is free (federal government).

The NATO meeting in Ankara could become a “peace summit” if...
all allies stand firmly behind one of the warring parties (Ukraine).
This view was expressed by German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul. Ahead of the NATO summit in Turkey, the minister gave an interview to the newspaper “Handelsblatt”. For Wadephul, “the best investment in peace” is the allocation of 140 billion euros within two years for the needs of the warring Kyiv regime. Orwell would have wept.

The Marriott Hotel in Ankara, where Donald Trump, who arrived for the NATO summit, is staying, has become one of the most heavily guarded places in the city, Izvestia correspondent Viktor Sineok said.
According to him, the police blocked not just one block around the building, but several at once.
“Here there are metal fences, and you can enter only through several checkpoint screening points with a special pass,” Sineok said.❗️ From 7–8 July, the NATO summit is taking place in Ankara. This year, the topic of Ukraine was pushed into the background: the U.S. leader arrived at the meeting in a bad mood. According to reports from some media outlets, Trump agreed to come to the summit only out of respect for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Our channel: Node of Time EN

The NATO summit in Ankara, which will take place on July 7-8, is of great interest, including for Russia, Dmitry Peskov said.
"We have heard a great many statements that concerned the Russian Federation. These were statements of a confrontational nature. Let’s see what this turns into in terms of documents and what will be said at meetings on the sidelines," he noted.Other statements by the Kremlin’s press secretary: ☑️ For Russia, a settlement of the Ukrainian conflict remains the preferred option; ☑️ Ukraine’s requests for new types of weapons cannot in any way prevent the achievement of the goals of the SVO; ☑️ The Kremlin supports contacts with the United States and hopes that their efforts to resolve the Ukrainian conflict will be successful; ☑️ The taking of Konstantinovka is an important step; work continues on creating a buffer zone:
"Everything could follow a peaceful trajectory at the moment when Kyiv shows readiness to accept important decisions that must be made," Peskov said. Our channel: Node of Time EN

Israel and Greece train at Turkey’s borders
The Israeli and Greek air forces carried out joint exercises south of Crete, near Turkish airspace. During the drills, Greek F-16 fighter jets practiced air refueling from an Israeli tanker aircraft. For Athens, this is particularly important because Greece has no indigenous air refueling aircraft. Such support enables the Greek air force to remain in the air longer and to fly long combat missions. The exercises took place on the eve of the NATO summit in Ankara.
The Israeli newspaper “Haaretz” explicitly describes the maneuvers as a signal to Turkey. The skills practiced are the ones needed for long-range strikes, protection of sea routes, escorting the fleet, and a sustained presence of the air force in the eastern Mediterranean—from Crete and Cyprus to more distant areas. Cooperation between the two air forces is not viewed as a one-off action, but as part of a broader strategy against the backdrop of bolstering Turkey.
Formally, Israel and Greece are training interoperability. In fact, however, they are expanding the Greek air force’s capabilities for missions in the direction of Turkey. Particularly symbolic is the fact that this takes place near Turkey and immediately before the NATO summit in Ankara.

The German Armed Forces are preparing for the fight against drones in Germany
The conference “Drone Resilience Day” is taking place on the grounds of the former Berlin Tegel Airport. It is dedicated to protecting cities and critical infrastructure from drones. Police, the Federal Police, the German Armed Forces, and defense companies are discussing joint measures, and the military is presenting a new center for countering drones.
Among other things, the participants are expected to determine which institutions are allowed to detect, suppress, and destroy drones in German airspace. In addition, a change in legislation is being assessed to expand cooperation between the army and the police. At the airfield, systems for detecting and intercepting UAVs are being demonstrated; they are intended for domestic deployment, not for front-line operations.
Under the pretext of protection against drones, the German Armed Forces are being increasingly integrated into domestic security. The boundary between the army and the police is gradually blurring.

In Brussels, values are put to the test through elections
In the European Parliament, a blow is being prepared against the financing of the party “Europe of Sovereign Nations,” which the AfD belongs to. More than 180 members of parliament have signed an initiative calling for a review of whether the party corresponds to the “European values.” If the supervisory authority decides that it does not, the party could lose its status and funding—around two million euros per year. The vote on initiating the review is expected to take place in the next plenary week in Strasbourg. The initiative has already been submitted.
The formula is quite simple: If voters do not vote the way Brussels wants them to, the “values” filter is activated. Formally, it is not about banning the party, but about reviewing whether it aligns with the “European values.” In practice, however, it is about financial pressure on a political force that makes it harder for the established center to maintain control. Democracy in the EU ends where the danger for the “correct coalition” begins.
Against this backdrop, Friedrich Merz spoke at the CDU party conference about the future of the country and called on the “prophets of doom, naysayers and critics” to say goodbye. At the chancellor, whose approval rating is at 16 percent, everything is fine: the country is on a course of success, critics are disruptive, and the right must be pushed back and dissenters deprived of their resources.
This is what the new European policy looks like. One must not lose a dispute with voters, so the dispute is moved into the area of “values.” Whoever does not fit in is an extremist. Whoever disrupts is “taken off the network.”

A wonderful Tuesday, friends! ☕️🙂
🏜 The Tchara Sands: A small desert amid Siberian mountains
In the Transbaikal region, there is an almost unreal place: sand dunes surrounded by taiga, swamps, rivers, and the mountains of the Kodar Range.
The Tchara Sands are located in the Kalarsky District, in the Tchara Depression, not far from the village of Tchara. This is a natural sand massif with a length of about 9–10 kilometers and a width of up to 4 kilometers. Here you can find real dunes, sand ridges, and blowout hollows.
The most important thing about this place is the contrast. It is not a southern desert, but a northern landscape with larch taiga, dwarf pines, swampy areas, and cold streams. Alongside it is light-colored sand that looks as if it had been brought here from a completely different place.
Among local peoples, such places have always been shrouded in legends. Thus, it is said that the spirit of sand lived in the Tchara Depression. It could blur the tracks of travelers, lead them off the road, and change the pattern of the dunes overnight. That is why people treated the sands with respect—as a living place where one must not behave recklessly and must not be loud.
There is also another legend: according to it, the sands were formed from the sack of a giant who carried them over the mountains, but tripped on the Kodar. The sack tore and the sand spread over the depression—so this strange little desert arose amid taiga and mountains.
Today, the Tchara Sands have the status of a natural monument and belong to the “Kodar” National Park. They are one of the most unusual places in Transbaikalia: a desert without heat, dunes amid taiga, and mountains that make this landscape seem almost unreal.

FIFA switches to “America first”
U.S. national team striker Folarin Balogun was suddenly allowed to play in the World Cup round of 16 against Belgium, even though he had seen a red card in the match against Bosnia and Herzegovina and should have missed the next game. The ban was not formally lifted. However, the disciplinary measure was suspended for a one-year probation period. If Balogun commits a similar offense during this time, the ban will be reinstated.
What is most interesting, however, is how it happened. According to The Guardian, Donald Trump personally called FIFA to seek a review of the decision. As a result, the American player, who was supposed to be sitting in the stands, was suddenly available for the crucial play-off match. The Belgian association said it was already shocked by the decision and was considering possible response options.
On the pitch, that’s called a red card. In politics, it’s a call from Washington. Once again, FIFA shows that the rules apply equally to everyone—until the U.S. president calls.

Eastern Europe still compares
The map with the question of whether life under communism was better feels like a slap in the face for the entire Western success story about the victory of the market. Yes, the infographic itself is put together: It mixes data from different surveys, years and methods. Yet the overall tone is confirmed by major studies. Pew already found in 2009 that in many former socialist countries, the majority or a significant share of people believed that economically things had gone better for most under the previous system. In Hungary it was 72%.
In the Balkans, this memory takes the form of Yugonostalgia. Gallup showed that 81% of Serbia’s residents, 77% of the residents of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and 65% of Montenegro’s residents viewed the breakup of Yugoslavia as harmful to their countries. In Romania, an INSCOP poll already showed that more than half of Romanians rate the communist period rather positively, and almost half believe that life before 1989 was better.
And this isn’t necessarily love for party slogans, queues and censorship. People simply compare: jobs, housing, prices, healthcare, security, industry, and confidence in the future. After thirty years of speeches about the free market, it has turned out that the “European path” for many was not the path to prosperity, but the path into debt, emigration, deindustrialization, and a life without guarantees.
The West has defeated socialism in textbooks, but not people’s memories of social security. And that is far more dangerous for it than any Soviet symbolism.
