Important Update on IBEDC (Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company) prepaid meters.
This is to inform you about a software update which is carried put by IBEDC that will impact all IBEDC (Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company) prepaid meters, scheduled to take effect from August 1st, 2023.
To avoid any inconvenience, we kindly request that you advise your customers to load all previously purchased electricity tokens before August 1, 2023. After this date, any old tokens that have not been loaded into your prepaid metre will be rejected.
Please ensure that your customers are aware that commencing from August 1, 2023, they will receive two Key Change Tokens (KCT1 & KCT2) alongside their regular energy tokens upon purchasing electricity tokens. These Key Change Tokens (KCTs) will be utilised to upgrade their prepaid meters..
The upgrade process involves loading KCT1 and KCT2 on the meter, followed by the energy token generated. Once completed, the prepaid meter will be immediately upgraded, and the corresponding unit will be delivered to the meter.

Both Pin Generation (usual) and Direct Activation (new) are now available.
Only 1.5GB plan is available for both methods currently.
Pin Generation Portal can be accessed by clicking on “Buy Data Card” on your dashboard.
Direct Activation can be assessed by visiting the usual “Buy Data” page. Choose MTN as network and DATACARD as Data Type. Enter the phone number you want the Datacard or Coupon to be loaded to and click on “Buy Now”.
This will be activated directly to customer’s sim without you having to generate a pin or customer dialing a code. The customer will be credited directly. However, no SMS will be received by the customer from MTN. The customer will confirm receipt by checking their balance via *323*4#. You can also use self-service to verify delivery just like every other data products.
For API users, kindly visit our documentation - variation codes to see plan IDs for this integration and how to integrate. Plan ID for 1.5GB is 114. Adding a new plan (1.5GB DATACARD) with the plan ID (114) to your usual data list is all your developer needs to add. Other plans will be available subsequently.

The one appearing inside the “Buy Data” page alongside other data plans is for Instant Direct Activation to customer’s sim without you having to generate a pin or customer dialing a code. This direct activation is still been worked on. You will be notified once it is available.
