Did you know....
Vancouver Island (and the west coast) have a spider that is from the same family as the Trapdoor Spider and Tarantula?
This is a Pacific Foldingdoor Spider (Antrodiaetus pacificus). They build underground nests, lined with silk with a folding door similar to a trapdoor spider.
They arent that large, at around 1" in diameter, are harmless to humans and are generally only seen just before they die. This one is a male who was out looking for a mate before he dies.
He was very docile, despite his large fangs and menacing appearance.
