If you hear a lot of people's medical stories, you'll notice some common elements. "They said if I hadn't got there that morning, I'd be dead for sure..." "Luckily the guy was the number two heart surgeon in the country..." The stories so often involve the world's greatest medical staff averting certain death in the nick of time, that you start to wonder if they tell people this sort of bullshit as a matter of course. The numbers tell a different story, with medical error killing people by the millions. (No exaggeration; look it up). When it goes wrong, they can just say, "An exceptionally challenging case! Even our best doctors couldn't solve it." Claim your wins; externalize your failures. Repeat. "Our genius doctor saved your life" might be the medical version of "Diversity is our greatest strength." @NatAudio2

Had my biannual interaction with the medical establishment yesterday, in the form of the FAA-required flight physical. Four years ago, I asked the doc, "This vax stuff seems like bad news, huh?" He gave a fairly long answer about the literature and good results, etc. Two years ago I asked him if the vax had wrecked any of the pilots he saw. He said yes, several careers appeared to be jeopardized because of it. This year just exchanged the minimal pleasantries. Nice guy, near retirement age, keeps a Bible in plain view in his checkup room, seems to be shuffling paper in the system. @NatAudio2
