🔹 Latest News: Karnataka has identified 2,500 acres for the project, including 500 acres of private land to be acquired.
🔹 Location: Near Kanakapura, Ramanagara district, Karnataka; around 90 km from Bengaluru.
🔹 River: Proposed at the confluence of the Cauvery and its tributary Arkavathi.
🔹 Key Features:
- Type: Multipurpose project (drinking water + hydropower).
- Power Generation: Approx. 400 MW.
🔹 Environmental Impact: More than 5,000 hectares of the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary would be submerged.
🔹 Inter-State Dispute: Tamil Nadu opposes the project, citing concerns over the unrestricted flow of Cauvery water into the state.
