Reuters had spot at $3,987.45, down 0.2% Main driver: On Saturday the Houthis said they attacked Saudi oil sites, though the damage isn’t confirmed. US oil rose to its highest level in over five months. That raised inflation worries and bets that the Fed will hike rates, which is weighing on gold. Fed pricing: Markets see about a 91% chance the Fed holds rates this week and about a 79% chance of a hike in December. Today: No major US data and no Fed speakers. German Ifo is at about 2:30 PM IST, which is its usual time; the sources didn’t confirm it. This week: The Fed decision is Wednesday at 11:30 PM IST, and US Q3 GDP and inflation (PCE) data come out Thursday at 6:00 PM IST.

GOLD (XAUUSD) – Evening Update | Fri 23 Oct | 6 PM IST Gold is holding just above $4,000 after this morning’s 3-month low. High oil and Fed rate-hike fears are still weighing on it. Price: $4,023.70 spot, flat on the day (Kitco, 5:53 PM IST) Earlier low: ~$3,987 in Asian trade, the first move below $4,000 since July What’s new since midday: • London session was quiet. Gold held $4,000–4,025 but has not bounced. • Oil kept climbing (Brent ~$114.9, WTI above $101) after more Houthi attacks on Saudi targets. Higher oil → inflation fears → pressure on gold. • Fed meets 27–28 Oct and is expected to hold. Markets price ~80% odds of a December hike. • ING says gold failed to gain from the stock sell-off and lower yields because oil and inflation fears are in charge.
