She works with a leading private hospital in Nigeria. Chalya got a Masters degree in Architecture at the age of 23. She lives in London and runs a successful architecture firm. Layi holds the view that," Every student has what it takes to be a high-flyer, one who is tired of failing or returning home with average results. Success is all about making a decision to be a successful person and doing the hard work to become such a person."

One day during the summer break, our father asked Layi to go with him to his office, and he was the last I saw of the 'old boy'. " Maybe you are right, however today I discovered that hardwork is more important to becoming successful than brilliance. Everyone is brilliant, but most people are too lazy to let their brilliance shine. I am going to be a successful engineer and make a lot of money; I might even buy a car, if you are a good boy." That sounded like music to my ears.

It was no surprise when the common entrance results were released. Fadeke gained admission into Federal Government College, Ilorin, reputed to be one of the best schools in Nigeria at that time, while Chalya was accepted into Federal Government Girls College, Oyo. Of all his friends and classmates, Layi was the only one who could not gain admission into any of the Federal schools. Our father was so ashamed as he had personal relationships with the principals, begging for the admission of his first son, yet none was able to accept Layi because of his poor results. At the end of a long and frustrating search, he was graciously permitted into a poorly rated school in our hometown. My brother was so devastated by his inability to gain admission into a federal school, and this terribly affected his performance during his first two years, where he was unable to shine even in a school where most of his classmates struggled to construct a correct sentence in English.
