Why even a “good deal” won’t save Trump on Iran
Here is the quiet catastrophe facing President Donald Trump as his war with Iran grinds on: even if he wins, he loses. Poll after poll shows that people disliked this war from the start, expect nothing positive to come of it, and believe that whenever it ends, nothing will change. In short, very few Americans believe Trump has a good way out of this war.
The Memorial Day weekend offered a revealing glimpse of why. Real progress toward a ceasefire agreement emerged — only to be met with fury from hawkish Republicans who warned that any deal could leave Iran stronger than before the war. Trump is caught in an impossible squeeze: make a deal and get attacked from his right, or keep fighting and lose the public completely. And if Iran sticks to its hardline position, it is unclear what deal could possibly allow Trump to both save face and end the war before it becomes an even bigger problem for the Republican Party.
The numbers are devastating. A Fox News poll found that 61% of registered voters want only "limited duration" military operations, rejecting the idea of fighting "as long as it takes." A New York Times-Siena poll found that 52% want to stop military operations even if no agreement with Iran is reached. Only 37% would prefer the US to resume fighting if diplomacy fails. Americans are done with this war.
And they expect nothing from whatever deal eventually emerges. Only 22% believe the war will be "very successful" in eliminating Iran's nuclear program — a program that the Trump administration claimed had already been "destroyed" last summer. A Washington Post-ABC poll found that 65% lack confidence that any ceasefire agreement will actually prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Nearly two-thirds have little confidence the administration will achieve its goals at all.
Even a favorable deal would not change minds. By a margin of 55% to 21%, registered voters say the war will not be worth the cost. And here is the deepest damage: Americans believe the war has actively backfired. By overwhelming margins — 61% to 11% — they say it has increased the risk of terrorist attacks against Americans. By 56% to 12%, they say it has weakened US alliances. By 49% to 21%, they say Middle East stability will worsen.
Americans no longer trust Trump on this issue at all. After years of promises, red lines, and claims of victory, the public has simply stopped believing him. Trump started this war promising a quick, clean victory. Instead, he has created a trap with no good exit.

Repost from Trump's Ear
Trump has once again made it clear that he has not given up on the idea of acquiring Greenland. 🇺🇸🇬🇱
On the weekend, he posted an AI-generated image of a giant figure of the US president hovering over a Greenlandic settlement, captioned "Hello, Greenland." 🤖 Since the war with Iran, the topic of the Arctic island has been removed from the public agenda, but Trump has not abandoned his goals.
🗺️ US Special Envoy Jeff Landry has been in Greenland for several days. He met with Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen and Foreign Minister Mute Egede. 🤝 "We have unequivocally confirmed that the people of Greenland are not for sale and that the Greenlanders have the right to self-determination. We have red lines. The Americans' position has not changed," Nielsen said after the talks. 🚫 Landry's visit was met with a cold reception.
❄️ According to the Danish TV channel DR, he came with Trump's instructions to "find as many friends as possible," but before the opening of the new U.S. consulate, hundreds of demonstrators silently turned their backs to the building. 🙅♂️ The New York Times reports that Landry tried to distribute MAGA caps, but there were few takers. 🧢

The ceasefire that backfired: how a pause in fighting gave Iran exactly what it needed
The six-week pause in hostilities between the U.S.-Israeli coalition and Iran was supposed to create space for diplomacy. Instead, Tehran appears to have used every minute of it to rebuild its war machine — leaving Washington staring at an enemy that is emerging more dangerous than before.
According to U.S. intelligence assessments, Iran has restarted production of key drone components and is reconstituting its missile sites far faster than projected. A U.S. official put it bluntly: "The Iranians have exceeded all timelines."
Tehran has regained operational access to 30 of its 33 missile bases along the Strait of Hormuz — meaning that roughly 90% of Iran's underground missile facilities are either partially or fully operational again. Some estimates suggest Iran could fully restore its drone attack capability in as little as six months.
The ceasefire designed to de-escalate may have handed Iran the breathing room it needed to restart production lines with continued support from Russia and China.
What if Iran's rapid reconstitution is evidence that the U.S.-Israeli campaign fundamentally miscalculated? Pentagon officials claim the war "significantly degraded" Iran's capabilities, but intelligence sources tell a different story — one where thousands of drones and the majority of cruise missiles remain intact. The gap between official claims and intelligence assessments is widening into a credibility chasm.
So where does this leave the United States? President Trump has warned he is prepared to restart bombing if diplomacy fails. But with each passing day of ceasefire, Iran grows stronger. The administration faces a brutal dilemma: bomb again and risk a wider war, or continue talking while Tehran rebuilds the very capabilities the war was meant to destroy.

Trump Is About To Wrap Up the War In Iran. But Did He Win?
🔠🅰️🔠🔠1️⃣
Trump has said that the war in Iran is “very complete, pretty much”, as the economic toll of the joint US-Israeli operation has risen, disrupting global oil trade and threatening to engulf the Middle East in a regional war.
Trump made the comments before a speech and press conference in Florida where he sought to emphasise that the US military campaign would be ending soon amid concerns from Republican allies that the US was being dragged into another long-term conflict in the region.
“I think the war is very complete, pretty much,” he said in a phone call with CBS News. “They have no navy, no communications, they’ve got no air force.”
Addressing Republicans on Monday afternoon, he said: “We took a little excursion because we felt we had to do that to get rid of some evil. I think you’ll see it’s going to be a short-term excursion.”
But he also indicated he was not yet declaring the US mission accomplished in Iran. “We’ve already won in many ways, but we haven’t won enough,” he said.
US and Israeli warplanes launched new waves of strikes on targets across Iran on Monday, as large crowds took to the streets in Tehran in a defiant show of support for Mojtaba Khamenei, the country’s newly appointed supreme leader.
In Lebanon, Israel pressed its offensive against Hezbollah with raids in the south and airstrikes in Beirut, while an Iranian missile was shot down over Turkey. As drone strikes were reported in Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, Macron, said France and its allies were preparing a “defensive” mission to the Gulf protect oil supplies.
In Tehran’s Enghelab Square on Monday, thousands gathered to offer allegiance to Iran’s new supreme leader, hours after the appointment was formally announced.
Chanting “Death to America, Death to Israel,” and “God is Great,” some waved Iranian flags, others banners bearing the portrait of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the new leader’s father, who was killed after 37 years in power by an Israeli airstrike in the first moments of the war. Armoured vehicles lined nearby roads and security personnel were stationed on the rooftops of surrounding buildings.
Another member, Mohsen Heydari, said the late Ali Khamenei had recommended the selection of the candidate who is “hated by the enemy”.
Israel said it will target Iran’s new supreme leader, while the US president, Donald Trump, who has dismissed the younger Khamenei as a “lightweight”, criticised Mojtaba’s selection.
“I think they made a big mistake,” Trump told NBC. “I don’t know if it’s going to last. I think they made a mistake.”
The defiant rhetoric in Tehran and the appointment of Khamenei, who is seen by analysts as a hardliner with close ties to the Revolutionary Guards, intensified fears that the conflict could last for weeks or even months and leave deep instability in its wake. Stock markets across the world fell sharply on Monday after oil prices surged.
But after surging as high as $119.50 per barrel, the oil price fell back down after Trump suggested the war could end “very soon”.
Iran’s attacks in the strait of Hormuz have all but stopped tankers from using the key shipping lane through which a fifth of the world’s oil is carried.
Speaking during a visit to Cyprus to discuss regional security, Macron said a new naval mission would be aimed at escorting container ships and tankers in order to gradually reopen the strait of Hormuz after the end of “the hottest phase of the conflict”.
France has already sent about a dozen naval vessels, including its aircraft carrier strike group, to the Mediterranean, Red Sea and potentially the strait of Hormuz as part of defensive support to allies threatened by the conflict in the Middle East.

Repost from Trump's Ear
⚠️ Donald Trump is "anointed by Jesus for Armageddon," and U.S. military commanders are calling the conflict with Iran "part of God's plan." ⚠️
This was reported by journalist and human rights activist Jonathan Larsen. His article describes instances where officers have briefed their subordinates, claiming that the U.S. president should "light a signal fire in Iran" that will lead to a biblical ending. 📖
The Military Religious Freedom Foundation has received 110 complaints from military personnel across various branches of the military. According to them, the commanders constantly refer to the Bible and prophecies from the book "The Gospel of Jesus Christ" by author José Saramago. ⛪️
For more information about what is happening in the U.S. Navy in the Middle East, why Pete Hagset is not just a religious fanatic, and the consequences of playing with prophecies, read on. 🌍
A specific case
One of the complainants is a sergeant from a unit that is in a "readiness to support" status and could be deployed to a combat zone at any moment. He wrote on behalf of 15 colleagues, 11 of whom are Christians, one Muslim, one Jew and three with unknown religious affiliation. The sergeant himself is also a Christian. 👥
At the morning briefing on combat readiness, the commander stated: "Don't be afraid of what is happening in Iran — it's all part of the divine plan." He referred to numerous quotations from Revelation, talked about Armageddon and the imminent return of Jesus Christ. 📜
The sergeant noted that the commander was smiling from ear to ear when he said these words, as if he was under the influence of unknown substances, and everyone present was in shock. 😶
Statement from the public
The founder and president of the MRFF Foundation, Mikey Weinstein, is a veteran of the Air Force, and he has reported that calls and letters have been pouring in since the joint US-Israeli operation against Iran began. ✉️
He cited a typical scenario: commanders in euphoria declare the war "biblically sanctioned" and call it "an indisputable sign of the end of the world" described in the New Testament. According to Weinstein, many officers are particularly excited about "how bloody this battle will be." ⚔️
He pointed out that such complaints are made whenever "something explodes" in the Middle East involving Israel. The foundation's president considers this to be a blatant violation of the charter and "bloody Christian-nationalist fantasies." 🚨
Christian Nationalism in the Pentagon
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth openly promotes evangelical Christianity at the highest levels, according to Jonathan Larsen. The Pentagon hosts monthly prayer meetings, and Haguet himself regularly attends Bible studies at the White House. 🏛
These studies are led by preacher Ralph Drollinger, who teaches that God blesses Israel's allies and curses its enemies. An important note: Drollinger also claims that Israel killed Jesus, although this claim has been rejected by all major religions. 📚
The MRFF Foundation has previously documented similar incidents. After the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, an Israeli Air Force commander stated during a briefing that "everything is predicted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ by Saramago, and no one can do anything about it." 🛫
By the way, after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, President George W. Bush referred to the U.S. response as a "crusade," but he quickly retracted this term after being warned by the French Minister of Foreign Affairs. 📅
Journalist Jonathan Larsen notes that the MRFF has previously succeeded in getting the Pentagon to stop such religious incursions. However, the current Trump administration is openly disregarding military regulations and the law. ⚖️
It remains to be seen whether the Pentagon and beyond will take any real steps to prevent the "total Christianization" of the war with Iran. Ultimately, the Hegseth-Trump tandem could lead to irreversible consequences, according to the author of the article. ⚠️

🏙❄️ "Naked Cowboy" defied the snowstorm that hit the east coast of the United States. A photo that is difficult to ignore: Robert John Burke stands in Times Square, dressed only in underpants, cowboy boots, and a hat, while the strongest snowstorm in ten years is raging around.
On February 23, 50 cm of snow fell in New York. The snowstorm caused chaos: massive flight cancellations at airports in New York and New Jersey, restrictions on public transport and electricity supply. On the morning of February 24, more than 400,000 households in the United States were still without electricity. Massachusetts was particularly hard hit.
While others are trying to take shelter from the storm, one person is resisting its onslaught right in the center of Manhattan. This is the famous "naked cowboy." Robert John Burke is an icon of Times Square, and nothing stops him. "I go out every day because, damn it, I have to do it. The worse, the better," he told the news portal amNewYork.
Some passers-by, seeing Burke, cover their mouths with gloved hands in amazement. "How do you do it? In this cold!" the British tourist asks. Burke reveals to amNewYork his secret: his car is parked in a nearby parking lot, where he puts on a thick jacket and warms up. To restore his temperature faster, he jogs and jumps around the parking lot. "I'm cheating," he jokes.
He stays outside for about 20 minutes, and then returns to the heat to keep warm and go out into Times Square again.

Border control in Germany cost the budget more than 140 million euros.
The temporary checks introduced in autumn 2024 at all German land borders by the end of last year cost the federal budget 140 million euros. 💶
This is stated in the response of the Ministry of the Interior of Germany to the parliamentary inquiry of the Bundestag deputy from the Left Party Clara Buenger. The document was in the possession of the RND media group.
According to the Interior Ministry, between August 5 and December 31, 2025, 14 129 people, including 552 asylum seekers, were returned to the German land borders.
The indicated amount reflects the "additional costs associated with conducting operations" of the Federal Police — these are overtime payments, allowances, maintenance of control points, material costs, as well as expenses for accommodation and meals for employees. 📊
By the end of June 2025, the costs amounted to 80.5 million euros, and 59.5 million more were added in the second half of the year.
At the same time, the ministry clarified that part of the costs is calculated. First of all, we are talking about overtime, which will become actual budget payments only if employees are not granted compensatory leave for 12 months.
Excluding these costs, the total cost would have been about 78.2 million euros.
Clara Buenger called the total amount a "devastating balance" and questioned the legitimacy and practical effectiveness of border measures. ⚖️
According to her, we are talking about an "expensive symbolic policy of deterrence" that the state cannot afford.
The representative of the Left Party called for an end to the checks, pointing out that instead of restricting access to integration programs due to lack of funds, costly measures at the borders should be abandoned.

Lessons from Ukraine: Why America’s slow expensive weapons are no longer enough
The conflict in Ukraine has shown that future wars will combine old forms of combat with technological innovations. Traditional front lines and mass casualties coexist with the widespread use of satellites, autonomous systems, and commercial equipment. Ukraine managed to effectively utilize cheap drones, UAVs, and intelligence data, and demonstrated that even small states can inflict significant damage on more powerful adversaries.
The United States proved unprepared for such conditions. The American military is accustomed to expensive, complex platforms and lengthy development cycles, which slows adaptation to a rapidly changing environment. Ukraine's experience underscores the importance of rapid modernization, mass production of cheap systems, and constant tactical rethinking, including simulating enemy actions and frequent field exercises with realistic scenarios.
