Personal Touch in Mains Answers (Especially Ethics and Essay) (2 min read)
You must have seen remarks like “Missing personal insights” in evaluated copies, especially in Ethics and Essay. Let’s try to address this.
In recent years, UPSC has increasingly asked questions demanding personal perspective like “What do YOU mean by”, “Do YOU agree” or “Give YOUR views.” Such questions demand more than just memorised content.
In Ethics, the overused examples of Armstrong Pame Sir and Smita Sabharwal Ma’am may not fetch you the same marks anymore. 😅
So, how do you add a personal touch?
✅ Professional Life - As I have been practising in the High Court and have seen how law can be used as well misused to both positive and negative effect. Example - The misuse of Provision of Adjournment.
Connecting such professional observations to ethical concepts adds a personal touch. Specially for all working professionals, even your routine professional experiences can offer valuable insights, if you observe and connect the dots.
✅ Personal Life - Have you ever voluntarily arranged shoes outside a temple or seen someone doing that? Nobody forced you to do it. Right? Isn’t that ethics in action?
✅ Relationships - A friend hurt you tremendously, yet you were among the first to help when he/she met with an accident. Isn’t that an example of compassion and forgiveness, the core of Gandhian Ethics?
👉🏻 Do you really need a compilation to tell you that? I think NO.
Coaching compilations are undoubtedly helpful, but don’t rely on them solely. Observe what you and others do. Reflect on why you do it. Build your own repository of examples from personal and professional life, specially for questions demanding personal perspective and independent reasoning.
You don’t need to do this for every answer and every topic of Essay and Ethics. NO! Even a few well-articulated personal insights in perspective-based questions can help you stand out.
The best value-addition material is not always something you read. Sometimes, it is something you have lived, witnessed, or reflected upon. 🙂
Thank you,

LBSNAA’s Foundation Program and Service Allocation list delayed
For the past few years, LBSNAA’s Common Foundation Course (Yes, the one whose pictures of newly selected officers you see on social media 😅) began in the last week of August.
This year, however, CFC remains delayed amid the ongoing legal proceedings related to OBC creamy-layer criteria.
The delay could also affect the release of service allocation and subsequent reserve list.
The Anxiety somehow never leaves you 😅 Even after getting selected !!
We hope that this does not trigger a wider ripple effect on other pending recruitment processes, particularly examination results - a concern all too familiar to State PSC aspirants.

“Ek baar exam clear ho jaaye, phir acche se celebrate karenge.” (2 min read)
You must have heard this line, or perhaps said it yourself.
But you know Why is that? - Somewhere along the way, we have Romanticised Hard work as a combination of Sacrifice and Suffering. We have been conditioned to think in binaries:
Black vs White. Success vs Failure. Studying vs Living Life. 😅
You skip festivals. Avoid family gatherings. Stop calling friends. Every time you felt like taking a break, a voice in your head reminded you that there was still a syllabus to finish.
Even when you are sitting with your family, a part of your mind is still at the study table. Some sacrifices are unavoidable and I understand that…
BUT..
👉🏻 The idea that you must sacrifice EVERYTHING for UPSC can slowly DEHUMANISE you. You become MECHANICAL. Life starts revolving around targets, tests and revisions. Slowly UPSC Preparation becomes your only identity.
Of course, this exam demands Discipline, Detachment and, at times, Isolation. But after all these years, I can tell you this: being a SERIOUS aspirant DOES NOT mean putting your entire life on hold, always.
Festivals, family and friendships are not always distractions. Sometimes, they are the very things that keep you BALANCED and ensure you sustain through this long journey.
Everyone tells you to enjoy your preparation. But you cannot enjoy the process if you strip away everything that makes you human.
So, take this as a Brother talking to you : talk to your parents, spend time with your family, call your friends, and sometimes be part of the celebrations too.
Yes, even during festivities, make time for your studies. Be mindful of your responsibilities.
You DO NOT need to abandon your preparation to celebrate, nor do you need to abandon every celebration to prepare well.
Buddha ka Madhyam Marg aise time mein bhi apply karna hai.(Not only for Ethics Conclusions) 😅
Do not make clearing an exam the condition for allowing yourself to live.
UPSC is important. Give it your best. But do not postpone every little joy of life until the day you clear it. Because what’s there in between first and second attempt, IS CALLED LIFE.
Wishing you All the Luck for the Academic year ahead.
Shubh Navmi to everyone. ✨

📌 CAD | First Weekly Issue - October
If you have been following CAD regularly, we expect you to find any monthly magazine revision much easier.
✅ Weekend task: Spare an hour to revisit the topics covered during the week. This will be your second reading, which will eventually improve your retention and recall.
The CAD weekly issue includes Clickable Index, Source Tracing and Topic-wise Segregation (Along with Mapping topics)
✅ We primarily cover articles from The Hindu, The Indian Express and PIB.
🛑 Follow CAD regularly for FREE 👉🏻 @PrelimsArena
Species reintroduction is a recurring UPSC theme. State birds and animals in the news are equally important.
Don’t limit your preparation to IUCN status and Schedules.
The Western Hoolock Gibbon question in CSE Prelims 2026 reinforces the need for a multi-dimensional understanding of species.
✅ To cover other important articles 👉🏻 CAD - 14th October
If you analyse PYQs, UPSC frequently asks questions on government Strategies, Missions, Policies and Programme, often drawing directly from PIB and other Government Sources.
Target year, objectives and key terms are particularly important, as highlighted.
👉🏻 For the complete article: 10th October 2026
@darkhorsecse
✅ CAD articles are regularly posted here: @PrelimsArena
We primarily source news from The Hindu, The Indian Express and PIB.

Make Current Affairs a daily habit instead of procrastinating and relying solely on monthly magazine. Reading an issue just once in a monthly compilation often makes retention and recall difficult and leads to massive backlog at the end.
👉🏻 CAD - 10th October
The idea behind CAD is simple:
DO NOT wait for the monthly magazine to catch up with current affairs from scratch. It’s better to stay updated daily, in minimal time.
We are keeping it crisp and focused so that you can read, revise and move on.
And finally when you eventually revise your Monthly Magazines, these regular readings will make retention and recall much easier.

Hello Everyone,
We have covered the Editorial Revisiting India’s Nuclear Doctrine here in QnA format.
At the same time, you can revise other Editorials related to the broader theme of “Nuclear Energy” through the Navigation Bar:
👉🏻 Nuclear Testing and India’s Policy

By Following this approach, you don’t just “Read and Forget” the Editorials but continuously revisit the contemporary themes associated with them.
Thankyou,🙂

A Case well FOUGHT !!!
As a High Court enrolled Advocate, I understand the perseverance it takes to take up a legal battle against the system.
The Jaymin Patel case has already been relied upon by aspirants challenging UPSC Prelims answer keys even in 2026.
👉🏻 To cut it short, he challenged a question in the 2024 CSE Prelims Keys and was granted interim relief to appear in the 2025 IFoS Mains.
I sincerely hope that nothing of this sort happens in the future and that no aspirant has to suffer because of an erroneous answer key.
Do read about the case🙂

Hello Everyone,
We have started with Editorial QnA for CSE Mains 2027.
👉🏻 Notes will be posted here, regularly.
👉🏻 Today we have covered Issues with India-EU FTA.
👉🏻 You can revise the Previous Contemporary themes Topic-wise from HERE.
Thankyou,🙂.
When we started “Editorial Compass”, the idea was simple:
Don’t just read editorials. Read them in a way that can be replicated in your answers.
The simplest way to do that?
✅ Convert editorial insights into a Question–Answer format.
The question was Asked Verbatim in GS-1 Mains 2026.
We covered the exact same topic
👉🏻“Demographic transition and challenges”
Many such themes got repeated directly from the topics we have covered in Editorial Compass.
🛑 The initiative remains FREE.
You can Also revise previous Editorials QnA Topic-Wise for Mains 2027 from here.
