Ghana to purchase 30% of gold output from large-scale miners starting July
Ghana will begin purchasing 30% of gold produced by large-scale mining companies from July 1 under a new agreement aimed at strengthening the country’s foreign exchange reserves and expanding its domestic gold refining industry.
The new arrangement was disclosed on Thursday in a government statement announcing an agreement reached with large-scale mining companies through the Ghana Chamber of Mines.

NREIT’s profit before tax jumps 333.6% to N3.19 billion in Q1 2026
Nigerian Real Estate Investment Trust Fund (NREIT) reported year-to-date pre-tax profit of N3.19 billion for the first quarter of 2026, representing an increase of 333.60% from N736.56 million in the corresponding period of 2025.
For the same period, total comprehensive income was N3.09 billion, up 345.35% from Q1 2025.
The strong bottom-line performance can be attributed to impressive revenue, which grew by 416.5% YoY, reaching N4.45 billion compared to the N861.59 million in Q1 2025.
NREIT announced a quarterly distribution for the quarter ended 31st March 2026 of N1.92 per unit for Series 1 – 4 investors, and N1.50 per unit for Series 5 investors, with a qualification date of 23rd April 2026.

Naira appreciates to N1,383/$ as yen hovers near 40-year low
The naira strengthened against the U.S. dollar on Thursday, appreciating to N1,383/$ at the official foreign exchange market, even as the dollar remained firm globally.
According to Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) data, the naira gained N6 from N1,389/$ recorded on Wednesday, reversing the previous day’s sharp decline.
The currency traded within a range of N1,376/$ to N1,390.50/$.

Apple raises Mac, iPad prices by up to 25% amid surging memory chip costs
Apple raised the prices of its Mac and iPad lineups by between 15% and 25% on Thursday, according to a report by Wall Street Journal.
This is coming a week after CEO Tim Cook warned that soaring memory and storage chip costs would force the company to act.
WSJ reports that the company briefly took down its Apple Online Store early Thursday morning, a move it typically makes when announcing new products or pricing changes.
When the store came back online, Mac prices had risen roughly 15% to 20%, and iPad prices had increased between 15% and 25%.

Access Holdings Plc has announced the retirement of its Executive Director, Business Support, Ms. Bolaji Agbede, effective June 30, 2026, following the expiration of her tenure.
Ms. Agbede is a former Acting Group CEO of the company.
The development was disclosed in a notice to the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), shareholders, and the investing public, signed by the Company’s Secretary, Sunday Ekwochi, and dated June 25, 2026.
Retirement takes effect June 30.

BREAKING: CBN orders banks to freeze assets of six individuals, four BDCs linked to terrorism financing
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has directed banks, payment service banks, and other financial institutions to immediately freeze all accounts, assets, and transactions linked to six individuals and four Bureau De Change (BDC) operators designated for terrorism financing.
The directive was contained in a circular dated June 24, 2026 (Ref: CMD/FCS/PUB/CIR/002/011), obtained by Nairametrics.
According to the apex bank, the latest update to the Nigeria Sanctions List, effective June 18, 2026, is binding on all regulated institutions and requires immediate implementation.

African family businesses outperform global peers as sales growth jumps – PwC
Family-owned businesses across Africa are proving more resilient than their global counterparts, with 66% reporting sales growth over the past year despite inflationary pressures, tax challenges and economic uncertainty.
This is according to PricewaterhouseCoopers Africa Family Business Survey 2025, which gathered responses from 79 family businesses across East, West and Southern Africa.
The survey found that African family businesses outperformed the global average, where only 57% of respondents reported sales growth during the same period.

FG proposes cross-border African payment card that bypasses third party currency
The Federal Government has called for the development of a cross-border payment card that would allow transactions between African currencies without requiring conversion through the U.S. dollar or other third-party currencies.
