Okin Biscuits restarts production after 17 years
Okin Biscuits has restarted one of its production lines at its factory in Offa, Kwara State, after 17 years of inactivity.
This is according to a post on the Facebook page of Okin Biscuits on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
The company said biscuits rolled off the rehabilitated production line during a technical trial run, although further testing and rehabilitation are required before the products return to the market.

Meta Platforms has agreed to pay up to $16.7 billion to settle a landmark lawsuit brought by multiple US states over allegations that its social media platforms harmed teenagers.
The agreement, filed in a US federal court on Wednesday, August 26, would require Meta to introduce new safeguards on Facebook and Instagram, Bloomberg reported.

Ventures Platform, an African seed stage venture capital firm, has announced the final close of its second institutional fund, Ventures Platform Pan African Fund II, at $84 million, exceeding its initial $75 million target.
The fund closed three years after the firm raised its first institutional fund and amid a more cautious global venture capital environment, according to a statement issued by the firm on Wednesday.
The latest close also expands the fund’s institutional investor base, with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Norfund, Norway’s development finance institution, Alphatron and Ashesi University Foundation joining as new investors.

The price of Brent crude has fallen by nearly $9 per barrel in the past seven days, representing a decline of about 9.6%, as renewed efforts by Iran and Oman to restore navigation through the Strait of Hormuz ease fears of prolonged disruption to global oil supplies.
Brent crude futures fell to $86.28 a barrel on Wednesday, August 26, down $2.30, or 2.6%, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures declined by $2.08, or 2.53%, to about $80.29 at the time of reporting.
The declines extended losses recorded on Tuesday, when both benchmarks fell by more than 3%.

Nigerian Naira shed slight value against the British Pound in the Nigerian market (both NFEM and parallel).
The development came as the pound Sterling enjoyed a much-needed comeback in the international foreign exchange market.
The British pound sterling was transacted at N1,838/£1 at the beginning of today’s official trading session on NFEM (computed via cross rate with USD), up from N1,839/£1 before the holidays.
The naira has found solid support on the back of the CBN’s strong structural and monetary policy stance. However, the British Pound continues to hold firm in the global foreign exchange market on robust UK macro data and l global uncertainty.

MTN Group plans to develop AI-enabled data centres with an initial capacity of about 150 megawatts (MW) across Nigeria and South Africa through a venture with an undisclosed UAE-backed investor.
MTN Group CEO Ralph Mupita disclosed the plan on Tuesday while outlining the company’s growth opportunities beyond its traditional telecommunications business.
He also disclosed that the group is exploring banking licences in select markets to eventually enable it to lend to customers from its own balance sheet.
The data centre plan comes as Africa’s artificial intelligence market is projected to grow from $4.5 billion in 2025 to $16.5 billion by 2030, increasing demand for the computing infrastructure required to develop and run AI applications.
