Marathon weekend is here — so let’s take a closer look at the medals. For the next four-year medal series, Rimi Riga Marathon is developing the artistic concept in close collaboration with the Latvian National Museum of Art. The upcoming letters are currently shown as placeholders until each year’s medal artwork will be revealed. The first letter, R, is inspired by motifs from the works of Latvian artist Boriss Bērziņš.

Looks like this weekend was made for running around — in every sense — and we see no reason not to make the most of it.

Last night, Filips Smits’ solo exhibition Let’s Get Sun Kissed opened in Rīga. Love the exhibition construction — it brings the feeling of being inside a temple of the sun. On view for a month at Veldze.

Venice Biennale just opened and Latvia is stepping into the spotlight with Untamed Assembly: Backstage of Utopia. Presented at the Latvian Pavilion, the exhibition brings together MANREUROL’S and Bruno Birmanis, revisiting the radical spirit of Riga’s Untamed Fashion Assembly — a 1990s platform where fashion, performance, art, music, and identity collided. More than a look into the past, the pavilion asks how creative communities imagine new futures in moments of transition — often not on the main stage, but behind the scenes.

#ad A storm is coming: the legendary Martha Graham Dance Company will perform in Riga this May for the first time. Founded in 1926, the oldest dance company in the United States arrives in Latvia as part of its centenary world tour, bringing one of the most influential names in modern dance.

Martha Graham’s impact on dance can be compared to Picasso in painting, Stravinsky in music, and Frank Lloyd Wright in architecture. Her works transformed modern dance into an art form of raw emotion, intensity, and fearless individuality. Time magazine named her “Dancer of the Century,” while generations of artists and audiences continue to be inspired by her vision.

On May 15 and 16, Riga audiences will have a rare opportunity to experience the iconic Martha Graham Dance Company live at Dailes Theatre - a landmark event for dance lovers in Latvia. Tickets are available here.
