International Day of Older Persons 2026 The International Day of Older Persons is observed every year on 1 October to recognize the contributions of older persons and promote their dignity, rights, health, safety and well-being. The United Nations General Assembly designated 1 October in 1990 through Resolution 45/106, following the Vienna International Plan of Action on Ageing (1982). The 2026 theme is “The Age of Longevity: Rethinking Systems for Longer Lives,” emphasizing the need to ensure that longer lives are healthy, productive, dignified and equitable. The global population aged 65 years and above increased from about 260 million in 1980 to 761 million in 2021 and is projected to represent around 17% of the world’s population by 2050. Global life expectancy reached 73.5 years in 2025, increasing by 8.6 years since 1995. In 1991, Resolution 46/91 adopted the UN Principles for Older Persons: Independence, Participation, Care, Self-fulfilment and Dignity. 1999 was declared the International Year of Older Persons under Resolution 47/5, with the theme “Towards a Society for All Ages.” In 2002, the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA) was adopted. The UN Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021–2030) further promotes the well-being of older people, their families and communities.

🌍 World Tourism Day 2026: India’s Tourism Growth & Digital Transformation World Tourism Day 2026 will be observed on 27 September 2026 under the theme “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism.” The global observance will take place in El Salvador. The theme highlights the growing role of digital technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in transforming tourism through personalised, convenient and seamless travel experiences. World Tourism Day is an initiative of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). It commemorates the adoption of the UNWTO Statutes in 1970 and was first celebrated in 1980. It highlights tourism’s contribution to socio-economic development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In India, tourism contributes significantly to economic growth and employment. In 2023–24, tourism contributed 5.22% to GDP and supported 8.46 crore jobs. India introduced its e-Visa facility in 2014, initially covering 43 countries, simplifying international travel.

राष्ट्रीय सेवा योजना (NSS) NSS भारत सरकार के युवा कार्यक्रम एवं खेल मंत्रालय की एक केंद्रीय क्षेत्र योजना (Central Sector Scheme) है। इसके माध्यम से विद्यालय, महाविद्यालय, विश्वविद्यालय एवं तकनीकी संस्थानों के विद्यार्थी विभिन्न सामुदायिक सेवा एवं सरकारी कार्यक्रमों में भाग लेते हैं। मुख्य उद्देश्य: स्वैच्छिक सामुदायिक सेवा के माध्यम से विद्यार्थियों के व्यक्तित्व एवं चरित्र का विकास करना। मुख्य उद्देश्य-वाक्य: “सेवा के माध्यम से शिक्षा” (Education through Service)। शुरुआत: 1969 में 37 विश्वविद्यालयों और लगभग 40,000 स्वयंसेवकों के साथ हुई। वर्तमान विस्तार: 771 विश्वविद्यालय, 51+2 परिषद/निदेशालय, 29,593 कॉलेज/तकनीकी संस्थान और 13,661 वरिष्ठ माध्यमिक विद्यालय। लाभार्थी: स्थापना से अब तक 8.2 करोड़ से अधिक विद्यार्थी NSS से लाभान्वित हुए हैं। NSS का आदर्श वाक्य: “NOT ME BUT YOU” (मैं नहीं, आप) — अर्थात स्वयं से पहले दूसरों और समाज की सेवा की भावना।

बधिर लोगों के मानवाधिकारों को सुनिश्चित करने में सांकेतिक भाषा के महत्व के बारे में जागरूकता बढ़ाने के लिए आज अंतरराष्ट्रीय सांकेतिक भाषा दिवस मनाया जा रहा है। इसके लिए इस वर्ष का विषय है “बधिर लोगों के मानवाधिकारों की घोषणा”। विश्व बधिर संघ भी 27 सितंबर तक बधिर लोगों का अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सप्ताह मना रहा है जिसमें समावेशी शिक्षा, सुलभता, बधिर संस्कृति और भागीदारी पर ध्यान केंद्रित किया गया है।   संयुक्त राष्ट्र के अनुसार, यह विषय जीवन के सभी क्षेत्रों में बधिर लोगों के अधिकारों को वास्तविकता बनाने का आह्वान करता है जिसमें राष्ट्रीय सांकेतिक भाषा के माध्यम से उन तक पहुंच बनाने पर बल दिया गया है। यह दिन इस वर्ष इसलिए भी खास है क्योंकि यह विश्व बधिर संघ की 75वीं वर्षगांठ और ‘दिव्यांग व्यक्तियों के अधिकारों पर संयुक्त राष्ट्र कन्वेंशन’ को अपनाए जाने के 20 वर्ष पूरे होने का प्रतीक है। संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा ने 2017 में 23 सितंबर को अंतरराष्ट्रीय सांकेतिक भाषा दिवस घोषित किया था।
