✅Gs-4 : case study Adhaar Card that solved kidnap mystery Four years back by the amazing intervention of Mahesh Bhagwat ,IPS Commissioner, Rachakonda Police; 36 children beween 3-13 yrs were rescued from a community that practices prostitution as a way of life. This community known as Dommaras consider prostitution as their 'Kulavrati' (community livelihood). It was an 8year old child that sent the first danger alert and through her 35 more were rescued. It was quite clear that something was grossly missing and all the children through the legally competent body were shifted to our children’s home. Immediately all hell broke lose & a number of ‘so called’ civil liberties groups, women’s groups started attacking us from all ends on human rights violation. Press meets were conducted condemning the rescue. Thanks to Rachakonda Police who worked undettered during this phase as the case was already in the High Court the investigation did not take a backseat. Well known progressive lawyers were representing the women who were claiming to be the mothers in the High Court. Some of their fire was doused when the DNA reports clearly showed that the children were not related to any of the women. Still for the last 4 years all efforts were made by these groups to somehow get the children out from our home. In the meantime we chose to play deaf and dumb on what is happening outside and focused on the well being of the child inside our home. In the course of our work I had instructed my team to get the Aadhar Cards for these children. It was a surprise for us when eight of the cards showed continuous error. On deeper enquiry with UIDAI it was found that these children’s Aadhar was already made. After much effort we got the duplicate cards. Imagine our surprise when most showed some other names with pictures of younger version of the same child. One card that was immediate brought to my notice was this child who is now 15yrs old and has a hindu name but on the card it was a Muslim name with an address in Vijayawada. I immediately informed Mahesh Bhagwat. In less than 24hours a special police team with Prajwala team members accompanied the child to Vijaywada. It was like a unbelievable miracle that the child who could not remember anything during her counselling sessions suddenly started getting flashback memories when the team reached before a electric shop just a few meters away from the street corner close to her home. It was as if a flood gate was opened. The child remembered the exact location where she was kidnapped 8years back by four men, she could remember the barber shop where her father got her baby cut and when she saw her mother coming it was as if the heavens burst open and for the next two hours there were only tears. This child was 7yrs old when she was kidnapped by four men. A missing complaint was lodged & therafter closed when the child was not found. The rescue happened 4 years later when the child was 11yrs old and found in a brothel in Yadadrigutta. The child was indoctrinated to believe that the woman in the brothel was her mother. As many of the children were found to have been given growth hormones our hunch is, they were being groomed for prostitution. 8 years later through a Adhaar Card we were able to reunite the child with her mother( the father died a few years back) thanks to the proactive efforts of #RachakondaPolice. There are a lot disturbing questions including the conspiracy of the the so called ‘progressive lot’ in trying to put all hurdles in the course of seeking the truth. For now I am just content watching the happy face of my child who is still digesting all these new developments.
