Every year, it seems, there is a new hot trend in data science. One of the hottest predictive analytics algorithms this year is gradient-boosted trees. One cannot hope to understand why it is popular and successful if one doesnt understand the basics of decision trees. Specific tree algorithms have risen and fallen in popularity, but the core concepts have been fundamental to the discipline for at least 30 years. In this course, instructor Keith McCormick demonstrates and discusses a half-dozen popular decision tree algorithms. Keith shows how to access them using other open-source options from within the KNIME platform. He explains them and reverse engineers them to create a solid foundation on which to build more advanced data science skills.

Thriving in a hybrid team environment, where part or all of the team is virtual and others are in the office, is challenging. How do we operate effectively and in a way that feels good for all of us? How do we gel and bond as a team, build trust, and explore how to be better partners for one another? Compared to in-person teams, virtual and hybrid teams spend less time focusing on these important aspects of team health. In this course, Melanie Proshchenko explores how to take what weve learned about creating real value in team building and apply it to our hybrid teams. Melanie shares her advice on how to foster cohesive and effective virtual and hybrid teams using team-building activities that dont waste time and get you and your team something tangible, not just fun and games. Here, youll see a whole host of tools, ideas, and techniques for designing virtual team off-sites, meetings, and activities that make a difference.

Almost every software developer uses dependencies to extend or accelerate the development process. GitHub Packages is a software package hosting service that allows you to host your software packages privately or publicly and use packages as dependencies in your projects. GitHub Packages combines your source code and packages in one place to provide integrated permissions management and billing, so you can centralize your software development on GitHub.
In this course, instructor Carlos Solís explains how to use GitHub packages to create and distribute secure and reliable software packages. He shows how to work with GitHub tools, create automated workflows, and shares tips and tricks to monetize and build communities around your software package. If youre a developer or DevOps engineer looking to create and host software packages using a more secure, reliable, and centralized platform, check out this course.

Version control—the practice of tracking and managing changes to software code—is one of the most powerful tools a developer can wield. And Git has become the version control system of choice for the modern web. The concepts of Git are not hard to understand, especially for developers, but Git has a language of its own. What is rebasing? What is a detached head? In this beginner-level course, Morten Rand-Hendriksen provides a common-sense translation and breakdown of the terminology of Git, and shows how you can use Git to travel back in time in a way thats practically science fiction (at least when it comes to code). Morten gives you the base-level knowledge you need to get started with Git, detailing important terminology and functions, and shows how to resolve common issues developers face in version control.
