🇬🇧 Using the Sun's Rays: Devices by Augustin Mouchot. The sun fascinates but remains a mystery. A source of heat, it can also be transformed into mechanical, electrical or chemical energy. At the end of the 19th century, these transformations of the radiant energy of the sun were studied by a professor of mathematics, Augustin Mouchot. It is heated without wood, without coal, without oil and without gas, with nothing, with the sun. He could therefore, according to need, boil a pot, distill a liquor, roast a poultry, operate a pump or steam a boiler, and by means of this boiler driven a motor. Thus the newspaper Le Rappel, presents the work of Augustin Mouchot, in 1878, qualifying him as "modern Prometheus". Today it is polluting and non-recyclable solar panels that are sold to us as progress... 🌞 Histoire Perdue ☀️ Du Labyrinthe aux Hypothèses

Heron Alexandrinus, or the Hero of Alexandria, was a Greek born in 10AD. Heron was a mathematician and an engineer considered to be one of the greatest inventors during the era in which he lived. Heron was one of the first known inventors of the steam engine, a steam powered device that was called aeolipile or the ‘Heron engine’. Heron gave detailed instructions for manufacturing more than 78 devices in his book Pneumatica. Many of Heron’s ideas were extensions and improvements of another Greek inventor who lived before him. https://www.loc.gov/resource/rbc0001.2009gen41532/?st=gallery https://youtu.be/RDABtbUXzYs?si=V2_ZaCzF-B_2AX37
