Read this before you treat “Bhutto” as only a Pakistani surname.
Nov 1947. Patel gets the call. Junagadh’s Dewan has asked India to take over the state. Munshi’s reply: Jai Somanatha.
That Dewan was Shahnawaz Bhutto.
His name comes from Bhurṭṭaka — a Suryavamsha Chalukya. Jaisalmer inscriptions of 1148 and 1173 still call the line Bhuṭṭā / Bhutta. They were not Muslim then.
Conversion did not just change the religion. It wiped the memory, altered the name, and turned a Kshatriya house into the family that promised India a thousand-year war.
The biographies stop at four centuries. The stones do not.

Before College Street became a legend, it was a hired house in Bahu Bazar, then a new verandah by the round tank at Pataldanga.
Samachar Darpan and Samachar Chandrika recorded the making of the Calcutta Sanskrit College as it happened: the first professors of nyaya and smriti, the thirteen rules, the five-rupee stipend, the foundation-stone laid with Freemason ceremony in 1824.
