The United States will introduce a permanent visa bond requirement for citizens of 50 countries starting August 3rd. Russia is not on the list. The maximum bond amount is $20,000. This applies to business and tourist visas (B-1/B-2). The amount of the bond in each individual case will be determined by a consular officer. The bond will be returned to the visa holder if they leave the United States within the specified timeframe, do not use the visa, or are denied entry. If a person violates the terms of their stay in the country, the bond will be forfeited. The new rules will affect citizens of Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Algeria, Angola, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Central African Republic, Mongolia, Nepal, Nicaragua, Tunisia, Uganda, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, and other countries in Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. Russia is not included in the list. According to the U.S. Department of State, the countries on the list are those whose citizens have most frequently violated visa regulations. The bond requirement is necessary to reduce the number of cases of visa misuse and overstaying in the United States, according to a statement from the department. Previously, the bond program operated on a pilot basis, and applicants could be required to pay a bond ranging from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on the circumstances. Now, the minimum threshold of $5,000 is being eliminated, and the maximum amount is increasing to $20,000.
