| 8 |  ⭕️ Freed Palestinian detainee Maher Abdul Latif Younis died early Sunday at 68, nearly three years after his release from Israeli prisons.
Younis, from the town of Ara inside the Green Line, was one of the longest-serving Palestinian detainees, spending 40 consecutive years in Israeli custody after his arrest in 1983 at the age of 25.
He was initially sentenced to death following prolonged interrogation, before the sentence was commuted to life imprisonment and later reduced in 2012 to a fixed 40-year term.
He was released on 19 January, 2023.
Widely seen as a major figure in the Palestinian prisoners’ movement, Younis also lost his father in 2008 during his incarceration.
Weeks before his death, he received official notice of a decision to revoke his Israeli citizenship, based on an order by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Gaza - Ma'an - Palestinians forgot the tragedy of war during the Egypt-Australia match in the Round of 32 of the World Cup, as shouts of joy erupted when the Egyptian team took the lead in the first half.
Gatherings were held to watch the match in public squares, cafes, and even inside the tents of displaced people.
The Egyptian Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza organized some areas for Palestinians to watch the match.
As the shouts of joy grew louder with the Egyptian team's first goal, a brief internet outage disrupted the viewing experience.
In every match of the Egyptian national team, public squares are filled with Palestinian fans.
The Egyptian national team leads its Australian counterpart by one goal to nil at the end of the first half.

The Pioneers of Bashan, a group that advocates Israeli settlement in Syria, called for the exploitation of territory captured by Israel in the governorates of Daraa and Quneitra.
"In the small Quneitra District alone, about 2,000 tons of wheat were harvested this year!" the group said on X, referring to crop yeild.
"When this fertile land is worked by pioneering Jews, instead of Hamas-supporting Sunnis, it will yield even more."
The Pioneers of Bashan were founded in April 2025, a few months after the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's government in December 2024.
