BREAKING: Pro-Palestine activists have disrupted a presentation by Werner Vogels, Amazon vice president and Chief Technology Officer, at the UN’s “AI for Good” summit in Switzerland. Palestinian civil society strongly condemns the UN International Telecommunication Union’s shameful partnership with criminal tech companies in this summit, particularly Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Cisco, Oracle, and IBM. In providing cloud infrastructure and AI technologies to the Israeli war ministry, these companies are deeply complicit in Israel’s military occupation, apartheid and genocide against Indigenous Palestinians. Project Nimbus, the joint $1.22 billion contract between Google and Amazon signed in 2021, provides cloud and AI tech services to the Israeli government and the Israeli military. It enables the Israeli military to run deadly AI programs such as Lavender and Gospel — crucial to its ongoing, livestreamed genocide in Gaza. | 15 |  ⭕️ Freed Palestinian detainee Maher Abdul Latif Younis died early Sunday at 68, nearly three years after his release from Israeli prisons.
Younis, from the town of Ara inside the Green Line, was one of the longest-serving Palestinian detainees, spending 40 consecutive years in Israeli custody after his arrest in 1983 at the age of 25.
He was initially sentenced to death following prolonged interrogation, before the sentence was commuted to life imprisonment and later reduced in 2012 to a fixed 40-year term.
He was released on 19 January, 2023.
Widely seen as a major figure in the Palestinian prisoners’ movement, Younis also lost his father in 2008 during his incarceration.
Weeks before his death, he received official notice of a decision to revoke his Israeli citizenship, based on an order by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Gatherings were held to watch the match in public squares, cafes, and even inside the tents of displaced people.
The Egyptian Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza organized some areas for Palestinians to watch the match.
As the shouts of joy grew louder with the Egyptian team's first goal, a brief internet outage disrupted the viewing experience.
In every match of the Egyptian national team, public squares are filled with Palestinian fans.
The Egyptian national team leads its Australian counterpart by one goal to nil at the end of the first half.
