A series of WhatsApp statuses on the Day of Ashura, by a close friend Dr. Rashid al-Hulaybah حفظه الله The Day of Ashura (today), the day Allah when saved Prophet Musa عليه السلام from Firawn, teaches you: When life & affairs tightens, it broadens And surely with hardship comes ease And with victory there is patience In the hours of the night, Prophet Musa عليه السلام fled in haste. By morning, his fears dissolved, pain ended, and the falsehoods were defeated there. These hours remind us every year: That the matter is with Allah, before and after, and that He is the Planner, with no partner, and that no one can impede His grace or hold back His mercy. And that gentleness lies within the most challenging moments. Ashura teaches us every year: that you may face difficulties alone, and that even those close to you - friends or family - can become instruments of discouragement and destruction (and Allah said: "We are overtaken for sure.” (26:61) We cannot imagine the magnitude of the emotions that Prophet Musa عليه السلام felt when he heard those words "We are overtaken for sure.” How painful it is to face the challenge alone, especially if you do not have a Lord you can trust. If Allah had not eternalized that moment for the Children of Israel, everyone would have forgotten that word; it would have been erased and replaced with scenes of support, heroism, and victory. Ashura teaches us every year that many will rejoice with you in your achievements, but it is the few who actually stand with you to make them possible. Ashura teaches us to always train our souls to recall moments of trial and hardship, and the subsequent relief and recovery, for it is through this remembrance that we sustain servitude and keep our covenant with Him.
