We have resolved numerous long-standing bugs related to 3D rendering in Map Playground. We are proud to say that we have essentially built a tailored "Google Earth" experience specifically for UPSC preparation. By applying the river overlay (using the controls on the bottom right), you can track the exact path of the Jhelum River. Furthermore, selecting the "Lakes" tab from the left pane allows you to pinpoint the precise location of Dal Lake beside the river in the valley. The level of detail is incredible. Other Updates & Refinements: • Versatile Viewing Modes: Seamlessly switch between a 3D Globe, Plain Map, and Satellite View. • Streamlined UI: Subject-wise browsing is now much easier. Currently, the platform covers Environment, Geography, History, Society, and International Relations (IR). • High-Precision Data: We have integrated actual polygon data from Bhuvan and Government Surveys. National park boundaries, tiger reserves, and river paths are highly accurate, down to a 50-meter resolution. You can verify this yourself by zooming in to see the Bhagirathi River originating exactly from Gaumukh. • NCERT Integration: All essential NCERT maps are pre-included for quick reference. (Long but a good read) 2-3 days back, we were talking to one of our mentees about Mains. We would like to share the essence of the discussion we had: • Mains is designed to be grueling and intense. It is made to weed out the weak and lazy as the preparation itself involves moving mountains, and only a hardworking person can accomplish that. All the "smart work only, avoid hard work" type competitors will be weeded out just because the Mains challenge is so daunting. Only a consistent, disciplined and focused person will be able to complete the preparation and perform in the exam. The rest will be filtered. Also, not all can be known about the Exam at once — Mains prep is like a hike — you have the map and everything laid out, but there will always be unknowns on the way up. Some bridge might be broken, some trail might have been washed out, but as you reach the heights, the path will "reveal" itself. As UPSC itself said: Wisdom finds truth. Keep going one day at a time, and you will see the benefits of consistency compounding and making your journey easier. • The syllabus and PYQs can be best understood via an analogy. Imagine you are a fisherman. Now knowledge is the ocean, and we are just looking to catch as many fish as ensures our survival through this cycle. The syllabus is like a map of all the fishing hotspots in the area. You can always venture into the ocean of knowledge, but not all ventures will result in you getting a truckload of fish. Even worse, you might return empty-handed if you just go out in pursuit of the fish (Old man and the sea vibes). PYQs are like the fishing net and tricks, which will help you catch the fish (marks) — provided you are in the right fishing hotspots (syllabus) and execute your fishing plan (Mains strategy) flawlessly. Now, people wonder what can happen if UPSC doesn't adhere to PYQs and deviates from the trend. Very well. It can happen. But what is its probability? Very Low. Also as everyone is in the same boat, you need not worry about it. If it's hard, it is hard for everyone. If UPSC wants to shock you by deviating from trends, it can — and you will not be able to do anything about it — like your competitors. Remember, Mains syllabus is very vast as compared to prelims and if UPSC wants to get you — they will ( like UPSC does shock and awe in random years in prelims). Mains is the phase where UPSC wants to test your ability to handle pressure + Knowledge to select candidates fit for services. Even when prelims was random, Mains pattern didn't budge much. Shock and Awe exists to refresh the pool of Mains writing candidates and diminish the edge of repeaters. UPSC is least likely to adopt such antics in Mains. • A single Mains exam can be viewed as a MasterChef contest — where you have to make 20 dishes in 3 hours. You have all the ingeredients - the content, the value additions, you put in countless hours of practice in your kitchen of answer writing, but still the MasterChef contest can be hard. For the dishes will be new, time will always be short — you will end up overcooking some dishes (spend more time on some answers) and undercooking some. In some, you will have expertise because you cooked them in practice. But overall — if you prepare all 20 dishes — as per the bare minimum expectation — the job is done. And if you keep up this average performance throughout the Mains cycle, you are most likely getting the interview call. Finally, as Bentham said, "The rarest of all human qualities is consistency". Be consistent in your efforts. Control the controllables and have complete and total confidence in yourself. Take care of your health and diet. When the hike gets steep, or the ocean feels too vast, fall back on this: Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitah—do your duty, and your duty will protect you. Your only duty right now is the honest hard work.
