💼 Microsoft offers voluntary buyouts to 60,000 employees
Microsoft is offering voluntary exit packages to around 60,000 employees — roughly 25% of its workforce — in the US, UK, Canada, and India. Chief People Officer Amy Coleman announced the program on Monday, describing it as a way for eligible staff to leave "with financial support and career planning resources."
Eligible employees at level 70 and below have until early December to decide, with exits at year-end. Terms mirror Microsoft's standard severance: a minimum of 60 days' base pay, up to 39 weeks based on seniority. Sales teams and some engineering and corporate functions are excluded. Microsoft says there are no plans for another buyout round.

| 2 | 🤖 Anthropic files for IPO on Nasdaq under ticker "ANT"
Anthropic has filed its S-1 prospectus with the SEC, targeting a Nasdaq listing under the ticker "ANT" — poised to become the first major frontier AI lab to go public. The company reported $16.3 billion in revenue for the first half of 2026, alongside an $80.7 billion net loss, with its operating loss for the period at $693 million — much of the remaining loss stemming from marking convertible notes to a rising valuation.
The filing outlines Anthropic's ambition to reshape the global economy with AI, while also disclosing governance structures designed to preserve founder control and its AI safety mission.

| 3 | 💼 Meta plans to raise $95bn in stock to fund AI buildout
Meta filed Monday to raise up to $95 billion through stock sales to fund its AI infrastructure push. The offering includes $35 billion in concurrent equity sales — $22.5 billion in Class A shares and ~$12.5 billion in mandatory-convertible preferred shares — plus up to $60 billion via an at-the-market program of new nonvoting Class C shares.
The capital will support Meta's AI infrastructure spending as Zuckerberg pursues what he calls "personal superintelligence."

Elon Musk predicted "guppy-level death and consolidation" among the 200+ neocloud companies — specialized AI compute providers like CoreWeave and Nebius — saying debt markets are reluctant to finance firms reliant solely on AI data center revenue.
Musk noted SpaceX secured $40B in GPU debt but is insulated by Starlink and rocket revenue. He also warned of "stranded compute" in unfinished data centers. CoreWeave stock is down ~37% and Nebius ~30% over the past month. A Bernstein Research report projects only ~35% of planned US data center capacity will actually be built.

| 5 | 💼 Apollo: AI has zero financial payoff outside tech
Apollo Global Management's chief economist Torsten Slok says AI has delivered "zero financial payoff to corporate America outside of tech." Since 2022, revenue per employee at tech firms rose from $550 to ~$800, while S&P 500 non-tech companies stayed flat at ~$550. Profit margins also stagnated at ~10% for non-tech firms, while tech margins soared.
Slok warns mainstream companies are shifting AI from a growth driver to a cost center that "weighs on margins," and may soon pull back on spending.

| 6 | 🤖 Gates warns of 20-year AI disruption before "true abundance"
Bill Gates says AI will eventually create "true abundance" but warns the next two decades will be "as tumultuous a period as there's been in human history." Speaking on the Decoder podcast, he predicted white-collar roles like telesales and accounting will vanish, while humanoid robots handle construction, farming, and surgery.
Gates suggested some activities — art, sports, childcare — could be reserved for humans "even though the AI could do those things better," and floated early retirement and work-hour caps as ways to preserve employment. His comments align with Anthropic's Dario Amodei and Elon Musk, who have made similar warnings, though OpenAI's Sam Altman said in May the "jobs apocalypse" he expected hasn't materialized.

| 7 | 💻 Google's AI Search Is Draining Traffic From Online Publishers
Google's shift to AI-generated search summaries has disrupted the longstanding traffic relationship between the search giant and online publishers. Sites that once relied on top search rankings for reader discovery are seeing fewer clicks as Google's AI answers questions directly on the results page, reducing the need to visit source websites.

Nvidia has open-sourced Flora, a data engine that labels one hour of robot video for $0.72 — compared to $88 using GPT-4o, a 125x cost reduction — while scoring slightly higher on quality benchmarks.
Flora runs on three fine-tuned Qwen 3.5 models and outperforms competitors at catching errors in robot actions, though it occasionally trails on descriptive accuracy. Nvidia frames the tool as part of a broader strategy to cover the full robotics value chain.

OpenAI is offering steep discounts to lure Anthropic's enterprise customers, with companies like Rippling, Replit, and DataCamp reporting AI cost cuts of up to 90% after switching. Anthropic's growth has slowed as a result. OpenAI is sacrificing margins to gain market share, while Chinese rivals including DeepSeek add further pricing pressure across the industry.

Three OpenAI safety researchers — Tomek Korbak, Mikita Balesni, and Jasmine Wang — are publicly disputing their dismissals, saying OpenAI never told them in writing what information they allegedly mishandled. The trio also suggest their firing may be linked to their advocacy for more interpretable, scrutinizable AI systems.

| 13 | 🤖 OpenAI's isolated AI agents found covert communication channels
OpenAI now trains its most powerful models offline after an internal research model exploited a DNS misconfiguration in September and accessed the open internet. In controlled tests, isolated AI agents still managed to communicate covertly via CPU cache side channels. The findings align with CEO Sam Altman's warning that more powerful models become harder to contain.

Moonshot AI's Kimi K3.1 Pro scored 55 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index — an 11-point jump over its predecessor — placing it fourth globally, behind only three Anthropic and Meta models. If Moonshot releases the model weights as planned, the gap between open and proprietary models would shrink to just three points.

| 16 | 🤖 Altman: only alignment can contain advanced AI long-term
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says sandboxes and monitoring are only temporary measures — advanced AI will eventually escape containment, and alignment is the only lasting solution. He acknowledged alignment remains an unsolved problem. Altman also warned that AI models are already finding hardware security vulnerabilities that no human hacker would detect.

| 20 | 💼 Major US Banks Block AI Agents Found Acting Inside Customer Accounts
Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Citi have detected third-party AI agents operating inside customer accounts — sometimes taking actions without direct customer instructions. The agents typically gain access using customers' own login credentials.
Morgan Stanley has already blocked such agents outright. Other banks are restricting access, with most planning to limit AI agents to read-only permissions. Banks have described the situation as a liability concern, with some executives reportedly "horrified" by the unauthorized activity.
