The First Major Decentralized Exchange: Before 2018, if you wanted to swap one cryptocurrency for another, you had no choice but to use a centralized exchange and trust them with your funds. Then everything changed. In 2018, a project called "Uniswap" was born. Uniswap introduced the world’s first major Decentralized Exchange (DEX). For the first time, anyone could swap tokens directly from their own wallet without registration, without KYC, and without handing over custody to any company. Its biggest innovation? Automated Market Makers (AMM) smart contracts that use liquidity pools to automatically set prices and enable instant trading. The Second Great Pioneer: Vitalik Buterin Born in 1994 in Russia, Vitalik moved to Canada as a child. At just 19 years old, he wrote the Ethereum Whitepaper in 2013–2014. His Big Idea: Bitcoin is great for money, but what if blockchain could do much more? In July 2015, Vitalik launched Ethereum the world’s first programmable blockchain. This single invention introduced Smart Contracts self-executing code that runs automatically when conditions are met. No middleman needed. Because of Vitalik, developers worldwide can now build decentralized apps (dApps), DeFi, NFTs, and more on Ethereum.
