Ares

Ares was the Greek god of war and one of the twelve Olympian gods. He was the son of Zeus, king of the gods, and Hera, queen of the gods, and he embodied the brutal, bloody, and merciless side of war. Unlike Athena, the goddess of strategy and intelligent warfare, Ares represented battle fury and slaughter on the field. He was impulsive and aggressive, and he wasn't well liked among the gods. In the myths he was defeated many times, by Athena, Heracles, and even mortals. His most famous story is his affair with Aphrodite, wife of Hephaestus, who trapped the two of them in a net and exposed them before the other gods. His children included Phobos (fear), Deimos (terror), and Harmonia. His symbols were the spear, the helmet, the dog, and the vulture. The Romans worshipped him as Mars and, unlike the Greeks, held him in much higher esteem, even regarding him as the father of the Roman people.
