In the presence of His Excellency the State Minister @mowieethiopia HE Dr Eng Sultan Welli, we joined community members in Lelicho, Sidama Region, for the foundation stone laying ceremony of the 600 kW solar mini‑grid, which will serve 423 households, under the DREAM Project. The ceremony marks the start of construction and an important step towards improving access to reliable, clean energy in the area. The mini‑grid is part of the DREAM (Distributed Renewable Energy–Agriculture Modalities) project, implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Energy and funded by the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP). Beyond electricity access, the project supports irrigation and productive use of energy, contributing to livelihoods and local economic development.

For years, agriculture and energy worked separately — but that is changing. Through the Power for Food Partnership, led by SNV, the link between agriculture and renewable energy is now officially recognized in Ethiopia’s National Regenerative Agriculture Strategy, including PURE. As Naoh from ESEDA shared: “We now see how energy and agriculture are deeply connected. They support each other, and that creates real opportunities.” This is a key step toward stronger food systems, better livelihoods, and more collaboration across sectors. #PowerForFoodPartnership #RegenerativeAgriculture #PURE #FoodSystems #RenewableEnergy #Ethiopia #SNV

Before launching in the Jimma Zone, we sought the wisdom and blessings of local traditional and religious leaders. Having received that vital foundation from you, our five-year mission is officially underway! While Jimma leads our target zones with a strong 86% ODF coverage, sustaining this baseline requires shifting from temporary awareness to daily, routine behaviour change. Implemented by SNV in partnership with The Fred Hollows Foundation, our strategy across 10 woredas tackles the root causes of trachoma recurrence. System Integration: Embedding facial cleanliness directly into the routine health extension programme. School WASH Clubs: Activating youth as change agents using school media kits. Water Rehabilitation: Repairing local schemes to secure baseline water access. www.snv.org #Jimma #CleanFacesCleanEnvironment. #WASH #TrachomaElimination #SNV #Ethiopia

In East and West Hararghe, nearly 45% of the target woredas are experiencing recrudescence, where trachoma has resurfaced after previous progress. This highlights the importance of sustained efforts beyond short-term interventions. Through Clean Faces, Clean Environment – The Path to Sustainable Trachoma Elimination, the project will work across 19 woredas, focusing on water access, sanitation, hygiene practices, and integration with existing community health systems. The approach also engages schools, households, and local leaders to support practical behavioural change and long-term impact. Following the Dire Dawa launch, the next engagement continues in Jimma. www.snv.org #CleanFacesCleanEnvironment #TrachomaElimination #WASH #Ethiopia

SNV is powering a new era for Ethiopia’s agri-food systems! We’ve reached a major milestone as the DREAM project begins civil construction at the Murche site. Joining H.E. Dr. Sultan Wali (MoWE) and partners GEAPP, ATI, and RVE.SOL, we officially laid the foundation stone for an 800 KW solar-powered mini-grid. This "Energy-Water-Food Nexus" will transform 250 hectares of land and provide a lifeline for 386 households through reliable irrigation and clean drinking water. By resolving land access issues and strengthening coordination, we are turning sustainable vision into tangible reality. SNV remains committed to scaling these climate-smart solutions to build economic resilience across Ethiopia. #SNV #DREAMProject #CleanEnergy #FoodSecurity #Ethiopia #SolarIrrigation #RenewableEnergy #MoWE #GEAPP #ATI

SNV is driving a new era for Ethiopia’s agri-food systems through the power of clean energy! We have reached a major milestone with the DREAM (Distributed Renewable Energy-Agriculture Modalities) project as we transition into the civil construction phase at the Murche site. This week, SNV was honored to join H.E. Dr. Sultan Wali, State Minister for Energy in the Ministry of Water and Energy, and our partners from GEAPP, ATI, and RVE.SOL for the official foundation stone laying ceremony. We are now clearing the path for an 800 KW solar-powered mini-grid that will serve as a lifeline for the community in Arba Minch Zuria Woreda. Why this matters for the Murche community: * Sustainable Growth: Linking renewable energy to 250 hectares of irrigated land, ensuring farmers are no longer dependent on unpredictable weather. * Impact at Scale: Supporting 386 local households, boosting productivity and long-term food security. * Holistic Access: Integrating clean energy for drinking water and productive uses, empowering the community from the ground up. Through strong coordination between federal and regional governments, we are proving that a market-based "Energy-Water-Food Nexus" is not just a concept—it is a tangible reality for rural Ethiopia. At SNV, we remain committed to scaling these climate-smart solutions to empower farmers and build economic resilience for generations to come. #SNV #DREAMProject #CleanEnergy #FoodSecurity #Ethiopia #SolarIrrigation #RenewableEnergy #MoWE #GEAPP #ATI
