پیتـر گـاه حس می‌ کنم ایـن ابتـلا بـه بیگانگـی، نـوعـی سوگـواریِ خامـوش است بـرای آنکـه بـوده‌ ام؛ مرثیـه‌ ای بی صـدا که بـدونِ لغـزش های کوچـك بـا تـاب آوردن بر پیکـرِ گذشتـه‌ ام همـراه شده، پیکـری کـه دیگـر زخـم های گذشتـه اش درد نمی کند و بـا غریبـهٔ درون آینـه خـو گرفتـه است. گویـی تأملـی بـه نزدیکـی مرگـی خـود خواستـه که بـا انکـار تدریجـی خویـش رخ می‌ دهـد؛ پـس از آن، زیستـن در نبوغـی دیگـر حتـی در یك شاکلـهٔ ناشناختـه، اتفـاق می افتد؛ و اینجاسـت کـه در تقـلای آنچـه رخ داده و آنچـه میبینی انتخابـی دشـوار است بـرای پذیرفتـن اینکـه حقیقـت در کدامیـن سـوی خانـه پنهـان شـده.
