| 8 | As for essay topic, I've decided to give you this one:
Some people think history has nothing or little to tell us, but others think that studying the past history can help us better understand the present.
Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Submit your essays till the end of September 3, and I will post the assessed versions here so that everybody can learn.

| 9 | Here are the answers for the reading passage I sent earlier, along with some vocabulary.
As I create these passages & questions all by myself, they are bound to have some certain flaws and inaccuracies. For example, one question requires you to change the word form, which is not actually acceptable. I have also been told that the word 'fundamental' makes Question 3 a bit too tricky.
If you spot any similar issues, report them in the comment section below so that I learn from these mistakes and can improve my test-writing skills. | 0 |
| 10 | I will send the topic tomorrow and will check first 10 essays submitted in .doc format in my DM (@farrustamov).

| 11 | Due to some technical problems (that is, both my phone and laptop broke almost simultaneously), I couldn't really post anything.
Luckily, this is now over. For obvious reasons, I chose this to be the topic for the week 3. I'm planning to launch a more interactive program and over the following 10 days it's going to operate in test mode. | 0 |

| 15 | Essay:
Industries of all types have been responsible for large amounts of pollution, so finding the ways to mitigate their impact on the environment is always high on the global agenda. It is often suggested that one feasible solution would be to introduce greater taxes on industrial processes. While I do agree that this measure may bring some potential benefits, I still think that this is not the most optimal approach to the problem.
It is important to understand why increasing taxes is put forward by its proponents. The consumerist attitude people have towards their lives have created the demand for cheap and fast manufacturing methods. Indeed, the main sources of pollution coming from industrial processes are carbon-based substances such as concrete and plastic, which are more affordable and readily-available than their environmentally-friendly substitutes. In this situation, it seems rational to increase the cost of using these materials in manufacture and construction. The industries would have to raise the price for their products and services to compensate for new taxation policies, which would discourage people from consuming goods labelled environmentally harmful.
However, I would argue that such an approach does not solve the problem entirely. As long as the public remains unconscious of the environmental problems that need to be dealt with, the usage of damaging substance in manufacture and construction will only continue. Therefore, instead of merely influencing industries, it would be better to work with end consumers. By increasing public awareness about the damaging effects of modern industrial practices, we can convince consumers to boycott potentially harmful products, leaving corporation no option other than to become more environmentally conscious. We should always remember that important global transformations may only occur if the necessary changes took place at an individual level.
In conclusion, although I admit that there is some reasoning behind advocating the approach of increasing industrial taxes, I strongly believe that industrial pollution can only be minimised if individual consumers were held responsible.

| 17 | Humans have inflicted disastrous damage to the environment over the course of their existence. From uncontrollable hunting to irresponsible manufacturing practices, human activities have always caused the nature to suffer.
One of the most serious problems we humans have created is pollution. Our constant desire to occupy more space and to produce more goods has finally led us to the point when we have to deal with the consequences of our own wrongdoings. Today, dealing with the effects of pollution has been put on global agenda and has become a top priority for many international organisation.
While a lot of animals still die from deadly contaminants in the air or water and vast areas of land are filled with wastes, it is our primary responsibility to do our best to help avert or at least slow down the destruction of the planet's ecosystem.
To understand how the problem of pollution has emerged in the first place and how it influences the world around us, and also to learn useful topic specific vocabulary, check out this site:

| 18 | Essay:
Our planet has gone through a wide range of transformations over the course of human existence. However, in more recent times, the environment has been threatened in many ways, with global warming allegedly being one the most serious dangers. Being partially caused by natural changes and mostly – by human activity, this phenomenon has to be dealt with on both governmental and individual levels.
There are two main factors responsible for a continuous increase in global temperatures. From one side, global warming is not a distinctive feature of modern times, but instead a recurring phenomenon that the world has experienced several times throughout millennia. It can be well argued that the rising temperatures are simply an inevitable part of yet another centuries-long cycle of interchanging periods of global cooling and heating. However, a more critical factor is humans’ carbon footprint. Burning fossil fuels to power the plants and vehicles has led to the accumulation of large quantities of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which essentially creates a canopy and do not allow the heat coming from the sun and human activity to escape the planet.
To solve this problem, appropriate measures should be taken by both large governing bodies and individual people. Global corporations are primary sources of greenhouse emissions, so it is reasonable for governments to implement stricter restrictions upon manufacturing and transportation processes. With all the power that such institutions possess, they can play a decisive role in dealing with global warming. On an individual level, people have to be shown the difference a single person and a single act can make to achieve a greater goal. Although it may seem that one person reducing their carbon usage cannot solve the problem of global scales, the collective effort of billions of people can drastically reduce our carbon output, allowing the environment to heal itself.
In conclusion, global warming is a result of both natural and artificial processes. To address this issue, it is important that the responsibility is laid not only on the governments, but also on ordinary people.
