If you’re like most people, you probably grew up using aluminum foil.
Your family used it for cooking, grilling, smoking ribs, or even to wrap your sandwiches for school and to store left overs at home because it’s so versatile.
The primary issue with aluminum foil is that it will leach aluminum into the food it’s cooked with, and not just tiny amounts.
A number of studies have looked at aluminum content of foods cooked with aluminum foil, aluminum cookware, and aluminum utensils (even at storing food in aluminum containers), and all of the above cause aluminum to leach into your food.
Aluminum is a neurotoxic heavy metal that has been linked to health issues, such as Alzheimer’s disease as well as malfunction of certain parts of your brain: memory decline, loss of coordination and body control.
Also it builds up in your bones and can take the place of calcium, deteriorating your bone quality.
The good news is that our bodies can process some of this aluminum and get rid of it, however, if you have kidney issues that’s even bigger reason to avoid anything with aluminum!
The bad news is that aluminum is everywhere and we come in contact with it.
You can also find aluminum in antacids, astringents, buffered aspirin, food additives, deodorants, cosmetics, kitchen utensils, pots, pans and in many food packaging.
Niko, Niko, Niko, what can I use instead of aluminum foil?
There are many alternatives you can use
For storing food I use glass storage containers.
For baking I use glass, ceramic, stainless steel, and when it comes to muffin pans use unbleached parchment baking paper.
For grilling you can use the grill as is but when grilling smaller pieces of vegetables you can use grill basket cedar grilling papers.
For wrapping food you want to bake or grill (like meats, potatoes, etc): you can use all natural cedar wraps
Cooking with aluminum foil is highly toxic, so unless you want to be like Sleepy Joe, I highly advise that you stop using it.
Much love,
Niko
