In a bearish market, price often seeks buy-side liquidity first.
Why?
Because in a sell program, Smart Money needs access to buy stops to efficiently build short positions.
Typical bearish sequence:
• Identify the draw on liquidity below
• Allow price to purge buy-side liquidity above a meaningful high
• Watch for strong bearish displacement
• Displacement violates a short-term low, signaling a shift in order flow
• The displacement creates a Fair Value Gap (FVG)
Now the key part most traders miss:
Timing.
High-probability setups usually form during algorithmic time windows such as the London or New York session.
• Wait for price to retrace into the FVG or its Consequent
Encroachment (CE) during a session macro
• Execute the short within that imbalance
• Invalidation is typically above the liquidity purge high
