🔆 BRICS New Delhi Declaration 2026: Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation & Sustainability
📍 Why in News?
🟢 The 18th BRICS Summit was held in New Delhi from 12–13 September 2026 under India’s Chairship.

🟢 India’s Chairship conducted 400+ meetings and engagements across 30 Indian cities.
📍 1. Global Governance & Global South
🟢 BRICS called for a more representative, democratic, accountable and inclusive multilateral system.
🟢 It sought greater participation of Emerging Markets & Developing Countries (EMDCs) and LDCs in global decision-makining.
🟢 It reiterated support for UN Security Council reform and greater representation of developing countries.
🟢 China and Russia reiterated support for the aspirations of India and Brazil to play a greater role in the UN, including the Security.
📍 2. Reform of Global Financial Institutions
🟢 BRICS called for reform of the Bretton Woods Institutions — IMF and World Bank to reflect the changing global economic order.
🟢 It sought greater quota and voting shares for EMDEs in the IMF.
🟢 It also advocated greater developing-country representation through World Bank shareholding realignment.
📍 3. WTO & Protectionism
🟢 Reaffirmed support for a rules-based, open, equitable and inclusive multilateral trading system with WTO at its core.
🟢 Called for restoration of the two-tier binding WTO dispute-settlement mechanism and appointment of Appellate Body members.
🟢 BRICS expressed concern over unilateral tariffs, non-tariff measures and protectionism disrupting global trade and supply chains.
📍 4. West Asia: De-escalation & Palestine
🟢 The Declaration expressed deep concern over escalating tensions in Middle East/West Asia and called for maximum restraint, dialogue and diplomacy.

🟢 It called for ceasefire and unhindered humanitarian access in Gaza and opposed policies aimed at forced displacement of Palestinians.

🟢 It welcomed the ceasefire in Lebanon, called for implementation of UNSC Resolution 1701, and called for withdrawal of occupying forces from Lebanese territories.
📍 5. Terrorism & Security
🟢 BRICS condemned terrorism in all forms and reaffirmed zero tolerance towards terrorism, terrorist financing, cross-border movement and safe havens.
🟢 It condemned the 22 April 2025 terrorist attack in Jammu & Kashmir, in which 26 people were killed.
🟢 It called for finalisation of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism under the UN framework.
📍 6. Digital, AI & Technology Cooperation
🟢 BRICS emphasised sovereign, self-reliant digital ecosystems and interoperable Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI).

🟢 Cooperation also covers quantum technologies, cybersecurity and submarine-cable connectivity.
📍 7. Health & Pandemic Preparedness
🟢 BRICS endorsed stronger cooperation in health surveillance, early warning and rapid response.
🟢 A dedicated Sub-Working Group was established for the BRICS Integrated Early Warning System for Mass Infectious Diseases.
