1️⃣ The U.S. stock market is under pressure as traders remain cautious amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East. Reuters reported on Thursday that the Islamic Republic has instructed the Yemeni Houthis to be prepared to close a critical oil route through the Red Sea if the U.S. strikes energy infrastructure.
2️⃣ Investors are also digesting a new wave of corporate earnings reports, including a drop of more than 5% in Netflix shares. The streaming giant’s results disappointed market participants, who were already concerned about slowing user engagement and intensifying competition from other streaming platforms.
3️⃣ In addition, hawkish rhetoric from Federal Reserve officials is weighing on the market. For example, Dallas Fed President Logan stated that “higher interest rates” would provide a better balance of risks in the U.S., adding that “moderate tightening” now would be preferable to “aggressive tightening” later.

💵 The Dollar Index (DXY) is trading at 100.50.
📊 Data released on Wednesday showed that the U.S. Producer Price Index fell more than expected in June, confirming the deflationary trend that began with weak Consumer Price Index data released the day before. Thus, U.S. industrial inflation fell by 0.3% in June, compared with expectations of zero growth. The annual rate slowed from 6% to 5.5%. These reports have led investors to almost abandon the idea of a Fed rate hike in July and to lower their expectations for such a move in September. Furthermore, according to the FedWatch Tool, the probability of a rate hike by the end of the year is now estimated at 75%, down from 87% at the start of the week.
🏛 Given that the June inflation data is already old, especially against the backdrop of the recent rise in oil prices, the downside potential for the U.S. dollar is limited. Also, an escalation of the conflict in the Middle East could create conditions for an earlier Fed rate hike.
